If you haven’t seen the Round 22 or Elimination Final against Whorethorn, they are both on YouTube

Brutal Games….

Beating the Dorks twice in 2 weeks back then was virtually unheard of.

I've never bothered looking at the stats but do we have the longest running Elimination Final winning streak?

I think that West Coast 1990 semi was at Waverley rather than Perth. We beat them in Perth in the 3rd last round.

I could be wrong but I think we went in as favourites in the semi Vs WC but were never in it and may have had a couple of key injuries.

It was, first final played out of Victoria was 1991 at Subi West Coast vs Hawthorn

We actual played West Coast at the Waverley Park where we played our poorest football and had a dreadful record of wins.

By 1/2 time the game was like 2018 we were nowhere WC 10 goals 5 points to MFC 2 goals 8 points we came home well in the last quarter but they won 19 goals 16 points to 15 goals 10 points lost by 30 points.

We absolutely couldn't handle WCE switching the ball across the ground. They had perfected a keepings off game and we couldn't touch the ball that day.

There was a copious amount of bathwater drank leading up to that game.

The Gaz Man basically said in his book that the premise they were working on when deciding to withdraw him was that ‘he would be right in a week after we beat the Eagles’.

Hubris at its finest. 😏

Yes I know. But we were still out of gas. Those 2 Whorethorn games were absolutely full on. They were a serious side at that point

I think my disappointment  is due to the fact we were given a fair leg up that season, bonus weeks rest, played West Coast in Melbourne when it should have been in Perth. No Jason Dunstall in the finals, it was the year he fractured his skull. We could have beaten anyone it was such an even year.

Yep. I agree. But having been in the crowd and watched those 2 Whorethorn games I was not suprised we went no further.
They were brutal and i am sure we were still banged up, even after a week off.
that hit that Greg Healy copped still gets me 30 years later

It's currently 2. 2006 and 2018. We lost EFs in 2004 and 2005. Surely not the record holder.

Prior to 2004 though I believe we'd never lost an Elimination Final.

Correct, but I took the question of "streak" as meaning consecutive wins without a loss...

1987-1991 are consecutive without a loss

If you watch the old replays you will often find one of my favourite commentators Ian Robertson often referring to Melbourne as “the Elimination Final specialists” Great days and great atmosphere created by TV voices like Robbo, Drew, Tim Lane et al. Dare I say unlike our current crop of self indulgent “personalities” who think it is all about them!

Right, I get you. I thought OP meant current streak, but you are right.

Sorry I should have been clearer, I meant the 5 in a row.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
