2nd induction is - Debbie Lee

Hall of fame is a joke every year that Garry Lyon misses out.

Nathan Burke? Really....

thought russell ebert might get elevated to legend status this year given his current illness and the fact he's still alive and could be celebrated and feted as appropriate

(not that oatey isn't worthy)

Can you be a legend of Australian Football if you didn't play or coach in the best competition in the country? Where do you draw the line - does Nick Sautner get in the HoF at some point because of his outstanding VFL record?

Five years ago they were cramming in every half-decent modern-day player they could find (Bell, Hall, Lappin, etc), now there are only two players from the entire history of the VFL/AFL worth including this year? Judd clearly yes, Burke less so.

Garry Lyon remains an inexplicable non-selection, and our golden era remains woefully under represented.

You have to respect the WAFL and SANFL as top tier competitions until the late 1980s.  They were equal to the standard of the VFL till the Eagles and Crows entered into the competition especially pre the 80s as we saw in the 80s Victoria clubs target WA/SA players to play in the VFL.

Since the expansion of the AFL, the state league competitions have become the second tier competitions and you will see the VFL have their own Hall of Fame like the WAFL and SANFL that will recognise players who have earnt this at that level

Seriously the WAFL of the late 70s and early 80s was not a lesser competition and at worst equal to the VFL. The South Freo, Claremont and Swan District sides of those eras were powerhouse sides, and they were followed by the up and coming East Freo and Subiaco sides who went on to create the core of the Eagles first 2 Premiership sides.

The joke of the HOF is the fascination with the modern day player and this is highlighted by Wiley being inducted the same year as Burke, considering Wiley’s career ended in 87 when Burke’s started

i couldn't believe dustin fletcher wasn't an automatic entrant, one of only 5 players over 400 games and arguably the greatest FB of the modern era if not all time, definitely has a resume to suggest he should've been named alongside judd and goodes in their retiree class, i wonder if the Dank saga played a part here?

One of the most famous names in footy. Even my mum knows who he is. Enough said. Is there some rule where your major contributions to the game have to be over? Garry is still a major player in the media. Could that be why?
