Thinking Hawthorn beat us next 22 games straight ?

wow, players wearing ear muffs and the old centre diamond.....i've forgotten why they changed that

marks adjudicated extremely softly, same for holding the man

I remember the game so well. The team got a standing ovation from Melbourne fans at half time and then they completely destroyed us in the second half.

The trauma of the experience that day (probably the origin of MFCSS) was felt for such a long time that whenever the Demons were leading at the main break, the people who sat in our area used to call out “don’t clap!!”

Yeah didn't want to mention the result previously and I see now the angle you are coming from WJ but without the first 3 qtrs, it seemed a tough no compromising and see sawing game. Everyone was cracking in, plenty of goals being scored and a much simpler less officiated flowing spectacle. I did wonder at the 30 minute or so mark how we were going to end up in front so it was disappointing when the siren went.

My Demon supporting days started the following year so it was great to hear those players names again especially Ross Brewer who was one of my faves. And I don't know if the Biff had started playing full forward at times in 73, he played full forward mostly in my memory and was occasionally full back when needed. Loved his torpedo goals.

The umpires hated us back then too. How did Leigh Matthews get a free kick for a great tackle on him? If I was an Essendon supported I'd still be boooing

Players first to the ball are being mauled by both umpires and opponents in the modern version of the game. Constant infringements by the tackler compared to the '73 version. Overhead marking so strong in those days, kicking to advantage not so much. Players follow the Kennedy rule: just boot the ball forward, so it's someone else's problem.

How good was Robbie! Only the 4th game of his career, and he had just turned 18. What a star.

Can we change the title of this thread to on this day 2021?

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
