A win against North is expected; if it is a healthy or very healthy victory, well and good - we could do with a little more percentage preference at this time of the year. However, there is no real need to 'can' them for poor fortunes. In any case, it could be imagined that North could create an upset - that is the nature of our great game, rare as it is, these days. If so, well done to them.

The players  just need to keep their minds on the job at hand, there will be a few hiccups along the way.

I remember Clarkson a few years ago when the Hawks were 100 pts up against Melbourne and in the last quarter he played a spare man in defence.

I said at the time thinking Clarkson was mean and wanted to inflict a 100 pt loss on Melbourne but a few weeks alter I was chatting to a Hawks Board member who told me that Clarkson uses such occasions to experiment with game plans and style.

Like practice a 'last 2mins of the game drill with scores level' type of thing.

It made total sense not to waste such an occasion. Even in a lop sided win you can be practising different tactics .

I really liked that idea and think Melbourne should try to get control of the game but use it to refine  or rehearse certain strategies. Our forward line hasn't yet dominated a side and we definitely need to frefine our skills in this area.

Why?  They aren't struggling off field.  They pare financially sound off field and have money to burn on field.

They are going through a re-build and are struggling. Weren't we not in this situation 10 years ago?

They will be fine,  if the AFL didn't muck around competing with other codes (which isn't a competition)  Tas would already be in and not bloody GWS and GC which is a joke They are in the league before Tas!

Whether I think they can survive in Melbourne or not is a moot point. But if their supporter, and more importantly, member numbers grow in Hobart to the extent that Tassie has more North members than does Victoria, the members could vote to have the club relocate to Hobart (with the AFL's permission, of course, which I would imagine would be readily forthcoming.)

i don't have any stats, but brother lives in hobart and he thinks club support is quite spread across a lot of clubs. norf probably have a good few but i doubt it's anywhere near the number on mainland, especially paid up members
