Amazing what the AFL will do to keep the Swans relevant. In the space of a pre season they have becomeĀ top 4 certaintiesĀ and skipped 5-10Ā years of hard yards that other clubs have to do without zone academy picks.

They knew their cycle was coming to an end so instead of losing the sydney bandwagon market lets create a conveyor belt of talent through an Academy, change the draft system to suit them to select Academy talentĀ to keep them in contention.

Makes me sick.

    Think they are also one of the teams that are benefitting from the new rules and the way the game is going. Ā Maybe this brings the Tigers back to the pack, and launches the doggies, swans and others. Ā ??

    The ball is coming in too quick for TigesĀ to set up.

    Last years Academy graduates are loading up from half back.

    Yup, and with all this insane talent on show they will have a coach who has already won a flag with the club.Ā  They will be back up the top for a long time.

    It's the blue print to beat anyone.

    They're belting Richmond in the centre and there are few to no defences that can withstand inside 50s coming in with no pressure.

    It also helps that they are a very well run and coachedĀ football club so can take advantage of the unfair system. They are renowned for developing players particularly re-cycled players.

    It's worth bearing in mind that Sydney barely have an injury list: Fox, Naismith and Ronke, all average players anyway.

    Probably the best-placed side in the comp right now on the injury front. Funnily enough, I think Richmond would also be up there for shortest injury list right nowĀ (Prestia's gone down today though).Ā

    Richmond are responding to this like bad Melbourne would.

    They've sent their entire 18 up into their defensive 50. So every time they get a turnover and look to rebound, they take off and see no one in front of them. So their last two defensive half turnovers have resulted in zero points scored because they have nothing forward of centre.

    It worked for us from 2007Ā until 2018 so I can see why Richmond are going for it.

    This is truly pathetic from Richmond.

    It's likely just a one off but the amount of lazy jogging, half-assed tackle attempts, ill-discipline and breakdown of structures is just baffling for a side with this much talent and only one or two players missing.

    only thing annoying about he game is I changed my tip from swans to tigers this morning as the odds blew out and I thought there was some bad news from the swans going into the game.Ā 

    The academy for NSW is a massive advantage, that has not been replicated by other clubs as it also includes the border towns on the nSW side where AFL is native and home to a history of champions.

      Round 11, the second week of The Sir Doug Nicholls Round, kicks off on Thursday night with the Cats hosting the Bulldogs at Kardinia Park. Geelong will be looking to to continue their decade long dominance over the Bulldogs, while the Dogs aim to take another big scalp as they surge up the ladder. On Friday night it's he Dreamtime at the 'G clash between Essendon and Richmond. The Bombers will want to avoid another embarrassing performance against a lowly side whilst the Tigers will be keen to avenge a disappointing loss to the Kangaroos. Saturday footy kicks off as the Blues face the Giants in a pivotal clash for both clubs. Carlton need to turn around their up and down season while GWS will be eager to bounce back and reassert themselves as a September threat. At twilight sees the Hawks taking on the Lions at the G. Hawthorn need to cement themselves in the Top 4 but theyā€™ll need to be at their best to challenge a Brisbane side eager to respond after last weekā€™s crushing loss to the Dees on their home turf. The first of the Saturday night double headers opens with North Melbourne up against the high-flying Magpies. The Roos will need a near-perfect performance to trouble a Collingwood side sitting atop the ladder.

Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark.Ā The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss.Ā The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the leagueā€™s present set up.Ā

Titus Oā€™Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, thereā€™s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

      The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demonsā€™ poor use of the football, itā€™s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbellā€™s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
