He’s in a really good place currently. His adoring sister (who was with him) is his biggest fan and as he said, his rock.

This is amazing news. Thanks GW

This just happened…

I was walking out of the Newmarket plaza having just made this week’s banner and a tall guy wearing a Melbourne cap walked past and said “Go Dees!” It was Majak. He took his cap off and put it on my head and told me to keep it. He said “Look, it’s got my number 28 on the back. I really want you to have it because you clearly love the Demons as much as I do.”

This is going straight to the poolroom. Well it would if I had a poolroom. The display cabinet in my lounge room will have to do.

Do you reckon he loves us more than North?

How very cool. Glad he's in a good place and he still loves the club.

Would it be the worst thing to offer him a mentor gig at the club?? And if anyone wants to have a go.. Ghosty and I will shut u up BIG TIME!

100%

He was wearing the Melbourne cap (which is now mine coz Maj and his sister Jakky don’t take no for an answer), and he spoke fondly about his time with us despite not having played a seniors game. He said he’s a Demons supporter and always will be and that the club “took great care” of him. He didn’t mention North at all. He was genuinely delighted to have run into such a nuffie Dees fan, true story 😃 and was moved by my initial reaction upon realising who he was, which was tears welling, of course 🙄 When we parted Jakky ran back to tell me how special the meeting was and that it made Maj happy therefore she was happy.

Edit: was originally gonna enshrine the cap but why let it sit and collect dust? It’s a little old and worse for wear but I wear it proudly coz Majak ❤️💙

...and how did I miss this first time round?

A great footy-world counterpoint to the other stuff swirling around.

Did anyone look at this thread and think for a second that we’re potentially looking at him as a support option for Max?

Yes.

Great to hear that he still lives our club.

Just out of interest, does he attend our games? And do we have many Somalians in our supporter base?

Not sure if he attends games but he keeps abreast of how we’re travelling. He says next year will be better because the changes that needed to be made were made. He spoke very highly of Goody.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
