2020 Player Reviews: #16 Kade Kolodjashnij

Continuing concussion issues ruled out any play for the unlucky Kolodjashnij and itโ€™s likely that his career is over as a result.

Very disappointing hopefully things turn positive for him soonย

Any news on the concussion front? Is he any chance to play next year?

Kade 'steak knives' Kolodjashnij.

In all seriousness, does anyone have any idea on how he's tracking? He's had an awful run over the last few years. I can recall Jordan Lewis saying in the media earlier this yearย that Kade's concussion issues were so concerning that even brief flashes of sunlightย weren't ideal.ย

Its unlikely, but I hope he's able to fight his way back. He could slot in nicely on the other wing, or could potentially move to half back to allow a Salem/Rivers type to run in the midfield.

Given the risk of permanentย brain damage, I very muchย doubt that Kade will play again. In the context of what appear to be ongoing health problems, andย reduced listย sizes inย 2021,ย I hope that he will step away from the game, with an amicable settlementย between his management and the MFC, in relation toย the final year of his contract.ย

A sad end to a promising career, but Iย trust and expect that the MFC, GCS and the AFLPA will look after his future welfare.

ps.ย  probably just me being over-sensitive, butย I detest the belittlingย term 'steak knives' in relation to our players, especially in these circumstances.

Honestly, I find it strange that he's still on the list at this point.ย  Surely this was the time to move him on if the club considers him to be a lost cause?ย

I'm all for him getting paid his entitlements and getting the support he needs from the club, but it is an absolute disgrace that he is still on the list.

St Kilda came to an arrangement with McCartin, surely we can do the same with Kolodjashnij.

With list sizes shrinking, we can't afford to be carrying players like he and Nietschke who can't contribute.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.ย

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
