Gil you are not running a tv/radio station based on ratings!

No, he is running a reality show loosely based around a sporting competition, for ratings!

I suspect Covid will be the excuse for various changes on the commercial side of the competition. The night Grand Final this year is one. (I'm not opposed to it this year, but would like it back in its traditional timeslot next year, although I suspect a night GF is here to stay.) The fluid fixturing will be another. To be fair, when revenue has taken as large a hit as it has, I can understand the AFL's interest in exploring options with greater financial reward.

What I don't understand, though, is how fluid fixturing helps financially when the AFL has two TV broadcasters. Boosting ratings on one (7 network) will be to the detriment of the other (Fox/Kayo). Perhaps it's more about the next TV rights deal and creating a more attractive proposition for potential bidders.

Well he ended up with the AFL equivalent of the Big Brother house this year in QLD, complete with some shenanigans and escapees for entertainment, so I think you're onto something there.

Especially when Fox/Kayo is paying almost two thirds of the media rights.

It's always been a strange marriage

Don't you realise that the crowds at Optus Adelaide Gabba of 10,000 plus were the only ones that really mattered in 2020 in the H and A fixture.

So the competition was fir better or worst centred around flexible fixturing which was really for TV purposes only.

That's  why This season has so much appeal snd of course hubs became an integral part of that fixturing allowing it to be possible also the Govt of Qld as well.

Depending  upon Victoria  We don't know how 2021 will be planned at this stage!

Thats why Gill is pro flexibility but 2021 may be entirely different we don't know yet!!

Surely this can't be allowed re Crouch:

"Crows appear happy to allow him to walk - as long as they get a good enough draft pick, which will be based on the size of the deal Crouch signs at his new home.

The mooted deal would see Adelaide trade for Jimmy Webster and Luke Dunstan, in exchange for “steak knife” late draft picks, to take on their salaries and free up space at St Kilda.

The Saints in turn would pay Crouch slightly more money, ensuring Adelaide receives a first-round pick in compensation - which would be Pick 2 - rather than Pick 20 or worse if the compo fell to the end of the first round".

Isn't that blatant draft tampering?

Yep it’s a blatant rort.

The Crows can threaten to match if the compo isn’t pick 2 so it’s in the Saints best interest really. The Saints keep their first round pick. The Crows get pick 2. 16 other clubs get screwed.

North must be apoplectic.

Absolutelh. The worst part is, they could do this without telling everyone they are cheating.

If it can be proved that this is the reason more money is being paid it is draft tampering.

Remember that the formula is discretionary. Then again the AFL may be happy to give these two clubs a helping hand.

MFCSS tells me that if we tried it we would be fined and lose the compo pick

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
