Asides from this thread being seriously derailed, I think whilst there was some validity to Garry Lyon's 'Red Mist' analogy, he seriously over did it last night to the point where I think he was obviously just trying to draw attention to himself rather than comment on the game.

It was like every time we had a rushed kick under pressure "there's that red mist again" or his other favorite "you can see the tako revving up".

Give us a break Garry last night you shaat me to tears.

Im not sure why people get so upset with Garry. He is paid to observe not barrack.

He has an opinion on the game. Its still better then Huddo and the other peanuts.

Regardless of if he over did the commentary or not, for the MFC to take the next level and become a really good side there are lots of fundermentals we still have to clean up.

Bit like what Clarko says. You can be middle of the road or you can be elite.

We are not elite.... the criticism is warranted.

Sorry can't agree. I could care less about his criticism.

But what i want from people paid to do live commentary is to do that job properly.

And Gaza is a terrible commentator. He does the job like he is doing his on the couch job.

Lyon is lucky that brown is so bad Lyon look like a Rhodes scholar in comparison.

On Brown his comment implying tmac staged contact (in the incident where his eye was hurt) was well out of order. Im not usually one to suggest the dees make noise about issues. But i think a behind the scenes word to fox and brown is called for.

I get and respect all that, but I thought he was way OTT with it last night and felt more like him looking for excuses to plug his own new theory and jargon.  Not every time a player choses the wrong option or doesn't execute a disposal can be put down to 'Red Mist' and even the best players have at least one or two clangers a game.

On a slightly different, but related note, I also thought that the bagging of Gawn for his little chip over the boundary out on the full in the last quarter was uncalled for.  For a gangly ruckman, Gawn generally has very clean skills and had played a ripper of a game. Yes it was a lapse, but Garry seemed to want to blow it up into a systemic flaw, again harping on about it for way more than it was worth.

But really Pennant you could be a bit more supportive. Jnr has had to deal with a lot of conflicted emotions of late.

  • The season starts with bad loss but Omac plays a terrific game (some say his best) and kills Darling. Gets praise on DL -  Sad. Sad. Confused.
  • After the enforced break Omac gets dropped, seeming proof he is not in our best 22. And we win. But play poorly - Happy. Vindicated. Annoyed.
  • Omac's replacement does not play well against the cats. We lose. Many demonland posters argue it is clear we need Omac back in the team  - Ambivalent. Angry. Baffled.
  • Omac's replacement does not play well against the tigers. We lose. Many demonland posters argue even more forcibly it is clear we need Omac back in the team - Ambivalent. Angry. Conflicted.
  • The conflict grows as it dawns on Jnr that he may  secretly believe we need Omac, that we will be a better team with him in the side, that he is in fact best 22. But denial is a powerful emotion.
  • Omac is selected in the side. We are indeed a better team with him in the side. Omac plays well. The dees win = Confused. Confused. Ambivalent.

So lets be kind. Jnr will have to watch Omac play next week against Frost. It might be too much for him.

Or it might be his chance to finally embrace and fully support Omac.

Some of your best work!

No stress, it's all good. I got no issue with what you're saying but if we ever want to go for a flag we have to be better then that.

And that's my interpretation of what Garry is saying.

Happy to agree to disagree

No Gary, that's it for now. I'll keep you in the loop though.

Actually while I've got you I tried listening to you and your oh so hilarious buddy Tim. But it was horrible. To be honest you are as bad at morning radio as you as a football commentator.

I haven't watched on the couch all season. But watched a bit on kayo ans skipped through to the bit where they t a liked about the dees.

A few reflections.

You've stacked on some weight. Are you trying to compete with Billy Brownless with that as well?

I thought you and 'browny' were a bad enough combination. But good Lord adding big Nick just completes the set.

Nice if you to take credit for the win.

What is that show all about? Are you supposed to analyse games of football? Do you actually prepare yourself? Or is every point and stat researched by the 16 year old work experience kid?

He has the worst voice for commentary

Barely able to hear the words or sentence construction

Nasel dominated with very poor diction and zero inflection

No matter what he says it is barely able to be listened to.

As I've mentioned several times, I've come across Lyon a number of times at close quarters. Dreadful man. Sadly he was my favourite player back in the day which kinda makes it worse.

i also dislike Watson. His smarminess is excruciating.

The combination of Lyon & Watson is appalling.

Can't stand McAvaney either. His demented growling sends me spare. His sucking up to Carey "duck ... duck ... duck"  is ridiculous. And calling players by their nicknames e..g Sauce is painful.

BT ... nup. Ling ... same. Brown's a meathead.

Perhaps I just hate everyone?

Actually, Reiwold despite being boring is capable of some reasonable comments.

And I find Richo quite endearing.

I'm going to bed ... night all. I think I've lost the plot.

Drives me crazy when Brown refers to us as “Mairbnnn”. Well, that’s how it sounds to me.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
