That’s probably not the best way to look at it. Richmond didn’t do a full rebuild through the draft when Hardwick became coach, they instead built a team of largely mature ages (initially) around their core young-at-the-time players Cotchin, Martin etc, so there’s more than one way to rise up the ladder successfully instead of just going full youth.

As did  tWallet,  before Hardwick.   Recruited many mature aged.

I think its best to have a blend of new elite talents and mature bodies and footy heads.

I've been banging on about this for the past couple of years,  since when Maxy was already a  26Yrs old.

So what name were you going by back then?

Any chance you can re-post what you said back then? Looks like it might have been insightful.

Who are asking for another rebuild.?   When we are still building,  haven't stopped since Roosy came over.

I guess  "the ReBuilds" ended,  when Roosy left us.   And the building work continues.

I should have phrased it better. Fans aren't asking for a rebuild. But by demanding Goody's scalp they will get another compromised one.

Hah,  it was about the attacks on Goody.   I'm with you.

If you've been around for a while you know I can be a bit of a dog with a bone especially with the avoidance of answers to the questions I ask. So if you are someone who's reluctant to answer those questions feel free to PM me and ask me to relent. Alternatively you could go and create another persona.

See this is why you should have PM me. This isn't what this thread is about. But ok "Ray Watson", "Sunray".

You stated "I've been banging on about this for the past couple of years,  since when Maxy was already a  26Yrs old."

I've asked you for further and better particulars and you've created bogus identities.

Don't you remember when you were quizzed about your identity a while back and you said you were a new poster?

Off you go, create a new Id, you might have more luck next time.

Some fairly intense Demonlanding going on here.

Yep and  he should have just PM me and we might have been able to sort it out.

Being the "self - righteous ........... person, I am. If I'm wrong I will fall on my sword, issue a public apology and never post here ever again.

So now I'm regretting this because I may have pushed you to far.

I'm concerned for you, if you genuinely believe you are faultless in this please PM me and say "relent"

I'm out. Thanks for wasting the 15 minutes I spent on a constructive response. Erased now.

Should have been Walston, but close enough.

Not doubting you but love to see what was written, and especially the context.

Well last year Lewis and Vince went into print in support of our coach. And I am quite close to a  Player delisted  at the end of last year with every reason to be [censored] off with Goodwin, but who continued to tell: me that he and the playing group were totally behind hi

Lewis & Vince were in the choccy box & played most weeks whether they deserved to or not.

Ask Spargo, Lockhart, Hore, Petty, Hannan, Preuss, Jordan, Sparrow, Dunkley, Chandler & the Wagners what they think of Goody......Wouldn't have thought there would be a lot of love there.

Don’t believe that many of those blokes woukd be critical of Goodwin. Half of them are injured, most of the others are not in best 22.lockhart a bit stiff but was given a good run ( out of nowhere) last year.  Have a listen to the interviews with Chaplin/ Richardson re tge players’ respect for the coach

How do you know that?

When was the last time players came out and said  that this guy cannot coach.

The second language of the AFL is lying.

Coaches always say  their players are capable of winning games then at seasons end they delist 10.

Players  always say they love playing for coach then when he is sacked the comments come out to the contrary.
who knows they might love him but how would we know?

There are a number of players who’ve retired or  been delisted by Dees, including some with quite high profiles . In such circumstances, bitter ex players are v likely to criticise. Yet I know of none who have

Two former and one delisted. Well that settles it then.. However it is not the players who are the only interested party here. Remember a favourite teacher who everyone loved. Did not make them a great teacher. Jury is still out on Goody. Its all about wins and losses.

Thats what the great John Kennedy said and he set the Hawks up for 60 years of success. Everything else is just entertainment and if thats all some here want thats fine with me too.

Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
