I honestly could be wrong.. but I SWEAR this was mentioned by Gary Pert or Bartlett maybe at the online members forum last year? Or I've read it somewhere at least. 

I'm pretty sure the arrangement is that we are training at Casey until the end of the year due to Covid whereas the AFLW is at Goshes.

i always thought we could (depending on covid) be stuck at casey all year, but that it wasn't necessarily fixed

Interesting I was reading an article on Shaun McKernan just then and found this bit interesting around our obvious interest in him last year. Now I'm not saying that I'm spewing we missed out on him etc, but I do worry that by trying to attract big name players, this could be one of the key hurdles that may potentially effect us.

He had a choice of his third AFL club, with Melbourne also showing interest in McKernan at the end of last season.

He said the call to pick the Saints was ultimately based around location, with McKernan reluctant to travel every day from his home in Greenvale to the Dees’ base at Casey Fields.

“It wasn’t anything to do with Melbourne. I had a pretty good chat with Goody [coach Simon Goodwin]

“I told him it’s got nothing to do with where the club’s at, just really a personal decision.”

I think this has more to do with where he lives, rather than where we train.

Plenty of people have turned down jobs due to travel, but you can bet if we had been the only club in the race, he’d be doing it happily

Exactly, so if he never played for Essendon he probably wouldn’t live out there.

If I lived in Bayside or the eastern suburbs I’d much rather drive to Casey than Tullamarine.

true, but boy, greenvale to casey is not just a drive, it's a flipping expedition!

We are not talking about a big name, first 18 recruit here.

This is a bloke who is insurance, so it doesn’t make sense to uproot his life.

If he was handed a 3-4 year contract, I’d guarantee he would move

I was talking about the bombers DC. As I have said on the past I don't care where they train as long it is first class. What happens after training at Casey if we have a good year? Does that mean training at Casey is better than in the city?

I would be loath to leave Casey if that happened. 

Not sure which is the better option in the medium term dc

I’d rather commit to Casey and make it our own, than spend the next 5 years in limbo waiting for announcement on a facility that takes 2 years to build

yes, that would be a problem. i think that if the board don't make an announcement of an inner city development this year there will be hell to play

According to our chief the next announcment will be from the government. That could be tomorrow or never. My guess is just before the next election. It would appear that right now the facilities are better at Casey than Goschs. To start with there is a full size ground in very good condition at Casey. Not so in the case of Goschs. Stay at Casey until the city venue is available in 2023 or whenever.

Greenvale to Moorabbin is not too great either 'daisy'...it's a pretty fair hike in traffic.

My recall was we were based at Casey until the end of preseason. The boys doing the captains run at Gosch's the other day makes me think they will be back there at least once a week. It could be Casey for the main session and the other 2 sessions a week at Gosch's.

It's also possible the women's season will be over in 3 weeks time.

The club has continued to be positive about getting a training base at Gosch's established.

If it didn't work out and we were at Casey more consistently then instead of worrying about it as a negative we should look to turn it to a positive. 

Casey is half an hour from Mt Eliza and Mornington and not too much further from a lot of the rest of the Mornington Peninsula. 

The Dandy Stingrays talent to come out of the Peninsula - Jones, Hibberd, Tom Lynch, Hunter Clark, Whitfield, Weitering, Hammill, Sam Sturt, Hayden Young etc rivals that of the Geelong area. 

AFL players like to party for a few years then like to settle down somewhere cruisy, surf and chill out. That's what gives Geelong such a recruiting advantage. 

Gawny has pioneered the way to live down on the Peninsula. The best option is Gosch's, but if it came to it Casey could be a selling point for the club if we did it correctly.

yeah, girls sitting 6th and last 3 games against top 5 sides

they only play 9 out of a possible 13 teams. looks like they got a bad draw as it turns out

The current board will never accept any location that is not close to the G. It does not matter where a alternative might be.

You've posted that about 1000 times but the reality is there's never been a good alternative anywhere remotely near the G. So it's either Goschs' or the suburban fringes and neither St Kilda nor Essendon have made the fringe experience work.

Why is Essendon not working? The reality is even if there was a good one at Caufield it would not get a look in. The location is cast in concrete.

The current board might be gone because of this

The board should look at Toorak Park. Right next to a train station in Demon Heartland. I’ve seen people bemoan the fact there is no parking there, but there is  just as much around that precinct as there is at Victoria Park and Moorabbin. 
 

Several years ago the Dees experimented with midweek training nights there and it was a huge success. Its redevelopment would benefit the community and could be used by Prahran juniors and women’s teams. These are the things that underpin the likelihood of government funding. 
 

Also, there is a great pub next to the ground.
