Demonland 74,443 Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 Co-skipper Jones had less time in the engine room and played in a number of roles this year including wing and half back as he reached the twilight of his career. Showed that he still has the ability to impact the contest and played in every game for the season. Stood down as captain after six years in the role but promised to remain a leader at the club even without the title. Dee Dee 1,145 Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 Probably his final year! 14 games to go! Will he make it? Quote
pewpewpew 742 Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 I think it was the right time for Jonesy to step down as Captain. I hope he can still contribute to our rise up the ladder. As the poster above mentioned he only has 14 games to go until 300 and I hope he makes it but he will have to earn his spot in the team. Certainly wasn't our worst player in 2019. Quote
Deeminion 412 Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 Where is Jonesy best position going forward? Midfield minutes are surely limited. I don't think he is effective enough on the wing or in defence (in a Hodge like role). I believe he would be best suited up forward. He could be playing quite a bit of footy at Casey next year and I think relinquishing the captaincy was his acknowledgement of that. I really do hope he can hit the 300 games milestone but barring a horror year of injuries like the one we just had I don't think he will make it. Quote
Lefty 413 Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 I was pleased that the club gave him another contract and I thought the terms were fair given he is in the twilight of his career and he will likely play mostly at Casey next year. Obviously giving up the captaincy was the right move. As mentioned it would be the cherry on top if he can reach 300 but 14 games in 2020 might be a stretch. 3 Quote
Deeoldfart 8,201 Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 Age and week- in, week-out 'batterings' have caught up with Jonesy, and it shows. He's had opportunities to move to 'greener pastures' over the years, but he chose to stick with us, and I'm pleased that his loyalty has been rewarded with a contract extension. I hope he can add the 300 milestone to his already decorated career. We know that he will always give 110 %. 2 Quote

grey wolf 226 Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 Pick 24 of my 22 chunk... thanks mate and we will make sure you get the 14 ... and in the mid no [censored] as wing or half forward.. Quote
whatwhat say what 23,863 Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 that game against the swans was more like the jones i want to see in that game he was getting much more forward of the ball and hitting the scoreboard he's been a bastion of the club yet at the same time doesn't necessarily seem to have been 'loved' by all and sundry - i'm hoping he gets to 300 minimum, as he's definitely in my best 22 at the start of 2020 Quote
