Is Ology still a thing??

I think this is a good move from Nate. Allows him to focus on pure footy for his remaining games at the highest level. Releases him from the addedย responsibility.

Look forward to seeing hisย 2020 season. He's been a selfless servantย of the club.

One of our major problems for years has been a lack of on-field leaders.

A leader is made up of many traits: oneย is the "follow me, do as I do" leader. Viney could offer this if he has a full pre season and performs at his best. Max is another capable of this.

But we've severely lacked the "on-field director"ย leadership role, especially as we have a young list. Lewis provided some of this, but not enough.

Don't remember who it was, but someone here posted a clip of a miked-up Jones pre and duringย gameย and another of Luke Hodge doing the same. The difference in quality leadership, direction and clear buy-in was enormous, embarrassingly so. Hodge is both the "follow me" and the "teacher".

Who can fill this void? Has Max the command to direct the players? Areย Lever and/or May the answer? Tmac?

I'm not confident we currently have someone who is capable of grabbingย teammates (and the game) by the scruff of their necks and instructing/directing themย towards victory in a tight game.

The teacher role doesn't need to be a single player, it can simply be having understanding of game style, awareness of what is happening on the field and good communication across all lines. This will probably come through our core group of under 25 y/old players.

Yeah, that was me.
Here they are again.

And here's Gawny for interests sake.

Gawn is the perfect co captain with Viney as he can be the guy to front theย media and be the face of the club.

I love Jack but public speaking/media work isn't exactly his strong suit to say the least!

Not sure how he addresses the playing group either!

Max doesn't say much, even after kicking a goal

I'll tell you another I saw who I was reasonably impressed with.
Heath Shaw believe it or not.
Was a true true general down back keeping his teammates focused.
Unlike Hodges controlled display Shaw did rip into a couple teammates though whichย they didn't really like.
Haven't been able to find that one online though.

Look forward to seeing it when you do. Very interesting to see how players personalities come out (or not) on game day. Hodge is a very impressive guy.

This might be it.
Didn't really rip into them as I remembered, still, you get the idea.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFLโ€™s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.ย
