I don't really understand these types of ideas. What exactly is he coming back to that was there when he was a player? He wants to return to the same but older cheer squad to chat with every saturday pre game? The same 85 year old boot studder in the locker room? Time to move on and get the best person for the job.

I believe a number of supporters  would like Adem Yze back at the club in an assistant coaching roll. Is he the best person for the job? You ask! Well, his time at Hawthorn during a pretty successful decade or so would indicate he has some ability. Maybe what he brought to Hawthorn by way of coaching could be transferred to Melbourne.

This is no mere nostalgia trip but a desire to get the best possible personnel at the club and Yze may well fit the bill. However It’s not up to us is it! The football department may not want him, and he may not want us!

If the guy wasn’t recognised as one of the best assistant coaches in the league I wouldn’t raise the issue at all. As for whether a return to the club would excite or depress him, I’m not sure that’s for you or any of us to comment on with any real authority. He’d have his reasons either way.

But the things you name as deterrents didn’t faze Ron Barrassi nor a helluva lot of other people, and the game and it’s sense of tradition and lore are all the better for it.

Perhaps it’s as simple as “finish what you started”.

As for the no “old boys” stuff, I get it. But when I think of Adem Yze - a guy of Albanian descent, raised in a Muslim family in the west of Melbourne - I don’t get that particular MFC “old boy” vibe that I assume people take issue with  .

My basic view is that AFL football is a ruthless industry with little room for sentiment, we need to get the best possible team of coaches around the players for the 2020 season, i have a feeling there would be forwards coaches ahead of Yze that would be on the radar.

it pains me to say that because Adam was one of my favourite players of all time.

You don't reckon the person responsible for strategy for one of the best strategical teams in the comp run by one of the best strategical coaches of all time isn't a good fit for our current vacancy in strategy?

Ah, I thought he played for Shep but grew up in Weribee. Either way, a great distance from Mt. Buller/Sth Yarra.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
