JJ will most likely get a strong chance to push for regular selection this week. Up to him to take it.

From what I remember, because we didn’t resign JJ on a full contract one year, and then picked him up in the rookie draft he is an unrestricted free agent. If he leaves we will most likely get no compensation.

Mostly true, but AFAIK UFAs still warrant draft compensation, e.g. Jayden Hunt, last year 3rd round compensation.

There is likely to be competition for JJ's services so he should get a 3-4 year contract on decent money, that combined with his young age which is another factor in compensation should provide something decent should he go.  Maybe something we can use to match a bid on Kynan Brown.

As a wingman - a useful role player who’s kicking and lack of breakaway speed puts a ceiling on his value. But maybe we see this week if Taj can be that and hopefully more.

As an on baller - he’s still very raw and untapped. I assume he only played 3/4’s v North after playing a quarter v Port and had 27 touches showing he’s starting to improve his accumulation and contested ball. His running can be a weapon. His size an asset.

But his lack of forward traits (speed, skills, marking) makes it hard to pick him as an on baller because you don’t want him spelling on a forward flank.

He’s the type of player who will be a good pick up at another club but that doesn’t necessarily mean we’ve done anything wrong if he goes.

I’d like to see him get a string of games as an on baller at AFL level but I also understand we have to fill a wing this week and we can’t just give out midfield games.

Big game this weekend for JJ. Would love to see him in around the stoppages winning contested ball. I imagine Gus will be needed filling gaps on wing and back line so I think its a terrific opportunity for JJ and Sparrow to stand up.

played full game from what i saw of casey on the stream

he's a classique 'good, ordinary' afl level midfielder

Well if he isn't in the 22 with Hunter and Oliver out, then I'm sure he'll be rethinking his position once again.

My guess is with Salem a game in, Brayshaw is moving to the wing / midfield, Sparrow to play midfield /forward like usually, and Harmes to split across mid/wing/forward as needed.

We knew Sparrow was ahead of him for midfield minutes. The cements what @DeeSpencer was saying about forward traits.

I still think he is a very handy player to have on the list. And I'd probably rather lose Harmes at his age and on his money, than Jordan, as I think he can be a role player and good cover for a long time.

we're going to have two first round picks at the end of this year - let's see what we do with them

if we pick two mids or if we bundle to get higher and pick a mid with a top 5 pick there might not be a spot for jj based upon his role at the club

it would be a shame to see him go, but he's just neither here nor there

JJ is one of my favorites but it is a player we can afford to lose.

and it is apparent he doesn't have the game style that goody and the team want.

He is a real in and under midfielder and unfortunately with Oliver, Viney, Trac and Sparrow and even Brayshaw he is to far down the order to be able to play the role he is best at.

I'd love to see him thrive and if it's at another club then so be it, as long as its not the Dogs, Coll, Ess or Carl!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
