Surely he’s worth it as a delisted free agent...

He got delisted by the suns there must be something seriously wrong with him. No from me. Give me Partington or Karpany.

With the worst midfield I think I have ever seen, surely Dew could have got more use out of Lyons and Barlow in particular

I think our 2013 VFL midfield would have given them a run for their money.

Craig Cameron came out and said 'we couldn't guarantee him a spot as we have young talent we need to get games into'.

Sound familiar?

Marty Lyons..can anyone confirm-I think he wore Number 29?

cant remember but do remember that he was clever, well balanced and a natural footballer. Probably a bit slow.

one of those players, that later you say, whatever happened to ...........

but we had a lot of players in that period that seemed to have the goods but did not go on.

Thx Hemingway. Just checked on Demonwiki - he wore No 12. 1975-77 was cleared back to Sandringham and eventually played in a premiership and then later coached their Reserves.

I want to know how in the hell this was approved by the AFL.

If the player is delisted, he should be in the draft.  That hasn't happened yet.

Every other club should have had a chance to draft him.

Or has the trade period now been extended to 365 days a year!

Delisted players have become delisted free agents for a number of years now, quite rightly so. If you're cut from one team you deserve the chance to restart your career at the club of your choice.

The only issue here is Lyons was delisted with a year to run on his contract but the AFL were satisfied it was a mutual agreement between Lyons and GC to delist him.

No 12

but unlikely to play many minutes in a midfield that now contains Anthony Miles and George Horlin-Smith,”

wow! That’s who’s keeping him out of the midfield in 2019?

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
