Did the Cats launch a hostile takeover of the Eagles while I wasn't paying attention? Surprising as last time I checked the Eagles were traveling pretty well!

What a load of tripe. No wonder newspapers don’t sell like they use to and if they do, the world has more fools!

I'd say that's a fairly accurate assessment.

I can't see why Carlton could be so high, surely they would be keeping things pretty low key and moderating expectations from where they are at.

I agree that 3rd would be reasonable for where we sit hype wise, weren't actually sitting in top spot for hype.  Perhaps is because I'm cautious by nature, but I'm a bit concerned that we are actually over hyped.  Quite conscious that as good as we have looked at times and as much as we have improved, have a quality young list etc, that taking those next steps of being a genuine flag contender are fraught with peril.  The Port Adelaide story from 2013 when they pushed Hawthorn within a few points of making a GF, and subsequent narrative was they had this great young list full of potential etc and the the failure to deliver since.  Bulldogs the other example.  Were going to have an ultra compeditive team for the period following their flag, but have similarly fallen off a cliff.

Would rather the hype follow the MFC retrospectively after we have delivered the flag.

What a rubbish list. Haha, oh Gazza. Loved you as a player, but you've got little clue as a commentator.

The hype around Essendon is totally over the top!  I will spew up if this mob of cheats finishes higher on the ladder than us.

Your two sentences sound like a combination of opinion and dislike, which completely contradict each other.

The hype around them is over the top, but if they finish higher than us you won't be happy. You can't have it both ways.

The hype around Essendon is no more over the top than the hype surrounding us last off season and as we proved, the hype was real.

I hope the Essendon hype is false, but they look pretty balanced now.

I concur though that if they finish high on the ladder, I'll be [censored] off. I cannot believe their cheating was allowed to enable them to get top draft picks and bottom out without strong enough draft sanctions. When Melbourne and Carlton had salary cap breeches, they were impacted (I'd argue) long term. Not so, Essendon. The amount of elite midfield talent they've assembled in the last 3 years is comparable, if not higher, than our own.

It is a hype ladder.  Teams with the most hype up top etc etc. I think bummers are definitely over-hyped, and lions are right up there.  We should be mid table (I think we have had to earn every accolade, and the media only jumped on the bandwagon right at the very end).  Eagles going about it all fairly quietly should be down lower.  Carlton are just a joke and be relegated to a different table all together.

Just another load of crap done by none other than Garry Lyon. I can't believe how such a great player can be such a poor expert. He should have given the game away when he picked Bailey when no one in their right mind would.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
