Mate, he is on a show, nightly where he discusses topics and gives his opinion. Better than the opposite of the average apathetic person afraid to give an opinion. Its easier to agree with the masses.

I don't agree with all of his thoughts but he has the guts to put them out there

I agree , he has the right to say whatever he wishes . I'd never advocate anybody being stopped from expressing themselves.

And none of it true.

I was just about to edit my post to say 'also, all a bit of a storm in a teacup really'.

It appears he attended some kind of briefing, as a media figure with one of the major television networks, among a variety of others. That's all rather different to a one-on-one chat about the aesthetics of the game.

Herald Sun keeping its standards where they are. I'm irritated that I got sucked in.

And I'm also a bit irritated that this thread has become a Waleed good vs Waleed evil tossaround. The only issue here (that appears to not be an issue) is that the AFL had apparently (in Herald Sun report level of verifaction, which probably means an intern visited a facebook group) sought out a celebrity to get strategic advice on  the state of the game after decades of smugly ignoring the earnest and good advice being shouted at them from every bloody direction.

The whole rule change debacle is a complete circus. Gill and Steve trying to make their mark on the game. People's panel consulting is just an attempt to find ex-ante support for unnecessary changes.

The last 8-10 weeks of footy has been great. They should keep their grubby mits off our game!

Why? Because the umps have thrown the ball up quicker, and been (a bit) better making decisions (including winding back interpretation of stupid recent rule changes)

How successful have recent changes been?

  - Ruck nominations - confusing debacle

  - 10m protected area 50m penalties - blight on the game (umps now directed to largely ignore)

  - pay head high free kicks at any chance - duckers and floppers like Selwood, Puopolo and a host of others leading with head to be rewarded cheap frees

  - Deliberate OOB or not trying hard enough to keep in or whatever the rule is - who the hell knows what's going on here?

   - Deliberate rushed behind - idiotic response to one games tactics

There's probably more...

As someone else posted - Solutions looking for problems!

Are people's issues here with a TV personality being approached or just this particular TV personality being approached?

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns.
