Will Fergy bounce back?

Featured Replies

A good article on the Melbourne Football Club website (melbournefc.com.au) about Ryan Ferguson. But is he up to it?

I thnk he is up to it - but will he break into the team!

id like to see him at CHB with rivs to play 3rd, he can also play Full back when the match up is better than carrol

I'm still waiting for him to stack on the weight or become lightening quick

I really like Ferguson. I think he has good awareness and decision making skills and is mighty couragous. I still think hes already in our best 22 playing in the forward pocket. Hes tall, can kick goals and is a relitivly quick player. He can also be used in defence at times but i think he would be a better forward type player. Im probebly wrong tho

if ferg can bulk up and i mean BULK up then maybe and i mean MAYBE he could replace holland. He has the pace to keep up with players like Gehgrig (cant spell) and if he can bulk up heaps then he might be able match strength on some of the giants.

But this is only 1 theory and not a very possible 1 at that. Holland only has a 1-2 years left in him so who is gonna replace him u need those two big players that can match the players CHF and FF.

I doubt it somehow. If he was going to bulk up he would have done so already. Pity he wasn't playing in the 70s because he could have sunk a slab every night and he would have had the bulk to play.

And by the way, what's with this joined late '05' and have 56 posts? Get real.

It may have been explained before but refresh my memory.

It means you joined this board in late '05 and posted 56 times at the time.

(the message board changed over from aimoo boards to invision at around that time)

From some training reports and pic fergy has bulked up a bit? i think this year we could see him become a really good player and play on the more bigger players. Only time will tell

It's funny. As poorly as we rate the guy, he'd probably play 22 for Carlton if it weren't for Thornton. Actually, if Thornton had been traded maybe we could have looked to move him to Carlton. Regardless of that though, the only role I can see him taking is that of someone like Benny. Not the gorilla defender role, but the floating-in-and-out-of-the-22 role. We've always had a somewhat dodgy defence, and with the young up and comers that ooze class, we only really need one or two backup KP defenders. He fills that role nicely. Depth for Ferg in 2007.

I did not realise there was another Ryan Ferguson at the Club. I have only seen one of them at training or in games. Both appear courgaeous but seem completely different players from then on with few similarities.

For both players, bulking up is high unlikely and is not this player's panacea.

For the one I do know he will be depth in 2007. And when called up I hope he fulfils his functions.

I think you're right about the necessity or otherwise of Ferg having to bulk up. My feeling has been that he has some great attributes like courage and persistence but that he might not be fast enough for a place in today's type of game. Have any of the track watchers detected an improvement in this area for him under the BB regime? If so, he might be a chance otherwise he will be no more than a depth player this year.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
