So is this a good result or a bad one for us?  I feel as though Port have a tougher run home, so them losing could be a better outcome as GWS have some easier games to come (and no, I don't include us in that).

Purely because I'm still wallowing in my own misery, the only amusement I can find from the situation is that GWS winning bumped Geelong down to 9th, despite what happened last night.

And... that's about it.

I think we have to accept GWS are likely to win almost every game from here with their buttery-soft run home. I'm not sure about Port's run home but I think they're pretenders and could easily fall out of the 8. It could very well be us vs them vying for that final spot.

I would've preferred to stay above GWS, Port and Syd have tough runs home but a game in hand makes it tough for us to overcome either

We need 3 wins now to scrape in on %

I'm delirious, but we will 4 or 5 of our remaining games, and either pinch 4th or finish 5/6th.

It's all in the head for our beloved demon's I truly believe we are top 4 quality . Although apart from the top 2 the rest of the 8 are all iffy on any given day

You'll be right in a few days, mate.  I (kind of ) guarantee it! :)

Oh dear. The Port, St Kilda and Geelong games should have won them all and we would have been on top today. As if I wasn't feeling quite bad enough already.

Shoulda coulda blah blah we lost those games cause we didn't execute as good as the opposition. I try not to think what ifs as a demon supporter it's only gonna enhance the pain

True, but those games show that we are not far off being really competitive should ease some of the pain.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
