What precisely is it about being 5th and a game clear inside the 8 that isn't meeting your expectations?

We’ve all been discussing it for 7 days

The season to date has exceeded my expectations in some ways ... the five game winning streak was more impressive as each week rolled by. Our seeming inability to gel against the powerhouse teams has been disappointing as it has been to all of us.

Entering the second half of the season I am optimistic but tempered by realism.

Still hoping for 6th and a finals win.

On the other hand there is not a stand out team at present so who knows !!

We should be 2nd and have performed poorly in 25% of our games.

We've had a great first half of the season mixed with some disappointments, but these lower moments were generally well-challenged and some, unfortunately unpredicatable (ie: Geelong game). We are in a stronger position now than we have been for some time - and that position reeks of continued successes. We have shown our cards to other gamblers around the table and it has been impressive. In the second half of the season, strengths return; our depth enables us to play an ace or two by surprise and raise the bets all around the table based upon that hand. Footy is, after all, fickle in many regards so if we don't have a 'go', we ain't going to collect. I'd reckon that our FD and players have taken measurements against the threats and realise that there are strategies to overcome the odds. Just staying in a respectable position for the finals will be achievement enough; however, there are those who consider we can aim higher than such a level. Our early successes stick in the minds of our team and its management to increase pride, confidence and determination. These are the keys to continued success from improved skills, strategies and work ethics. I'd rate the year so far and an 8/10 with a finals entrance at 4th of the top 8 on the ladder. Carna Dees!

Six game winning streak, DJ.

I’d give us a B+ for (finally) belting teams that we should. It would have been a B- if not.

I’d have given us a A if we’d had close losses against the better teams, it’s the nature of these  losses which is the most concerning, we seem to lack some answers at the moment.

From my point of view and having seen all games and watched quite a few replays it’s a B+.                 My concern is our defence still leaking too many points. Currently by points conceded there are 9 teams better than us, every other team in the 8 plus Hawthorn and GWS IN 9th and 10th spots.    The teams attacking game is spectacular but we leak badly down back. The Melbourne Football Club 2018 is still a work in progress, certainly better I believe than last year but still not an A.
