No one is up in arms about Wattsy now !! Great game by everyone. So much aggression and energy.

I'd prefer Spargo to him. Spargo works his butt off, without any hoity-toity smugness.

I'd prefer 'el-gato' to him, as well. We have a beaut.

If you go into a oppo player to belittle him, it can go either way. Against a strong side down on form, being arrogant can cause the oppo side to fire up.

Or give them ammunition for when they are back to full strength, for next time.

This is how I would hope our players would react, in that case.

You can't be 'dee-luded'!

You seem a far more cheerful and well rounded character.  Might I also say far more worldly and balanced in perspective...

...sorry to 'dee-luded', no offence intended, I always found your posts entertaining and 'colourful' in more ways than one...

Trying to keep a lid on things after this win is tough.

Fortunately my football knowledge is terrible, which makes things a little easier.

In 2016, I thought the Dogs had no chance. Premiers.

In 2017, I thought the Tigers had no chance. Premiers.

I think the Dees have no chance in 2018.

Just watching the full first half

Brooooose is just appalling - practically orgasmic every time Eddie goes anywhere near the ball and so cringeworthy  deferential to the woman glasser.

And I never thought that Clarrie’s hands could get quicker .... but they have.  Truly amazing

Could have been better - actually stuffed up about 4 opportunities in Q2 in possession in deep F50  - should have won by 120+ ( I know I am getting hard to satisfy)

Haha same!!

Hibbo best on first qtr and a half with Gus close behind, Crows were not great but came a few times and really put the pressure on and got back to 18 points before we went again. But of credit to the Dees please.

Besides a couple of smothers Talia was given a bath.

Bruce... (paraphrasing) “Daisy is it because the ground is so wide the Dees have been able to spread so well?”

Graphic comes up 5 mins later showing the ground is not as wide as the G

”oh that’s surprising..”

I noticed that when Mackay fumbled that ball and Melksham pounced, no one went and got stuck in, I think Melksham thought about it for a split second but just celebrated with Hogan. Petracca was in the vicinity too. No doubt in my mind they would’ve been all over Mackay last year.

No doubt Goodwin’s message of being a strong but humble footy team is sinking in.

For the record I wouldn’t let Mackay hear the end of it.

Hogan on Mirra earlier this year.

The ground is longer but narrower than the G, something that shocked me. Bruce claimed it feels wider than it is, to me, I always felt the ground was smaller in all dimensions in comparison to the G.

maybe, just maybe keeping the lid on,,, has its benefits..... over recent years?

The ground is wider on the flanks giving it a more “rectangular” feel than the MCG. I think that maybe where the deception comes in..

"No, it is because the Crows have been utter crap today, Bruce, and the Dees have hit a real patch of form".

Yeah.  It was so unusual for a team not to get stuck into a player in that situation it was very noticeable.  It's clearly been an instruction from Goodwin and I like it.  Reverse arrogance :)

Although you can see Petracca saying a few words to him (but not looking at him) as he was walking off.

I like it. Perhaps is a correction from last year, when we were arguably "too unsociable" (think Bugg, Vince, Lewis, Hogan all suspended). It is a fine line, but we seem to have got the balance better this year.

All this positive press makes me uneasy and I want to see us do it over a long period but bloody hell it feels exciting like we could be on the cusp of something really special.

That's precisely how I feel.

I'm concerned about the OTT stuff being said about us (we're not premiership favourites FFS) and, like many, I'd love to see us play like this against a stronger side than North Melbourne or a two-thirds-strong Adelaide.

But I love feeling like we're a genuine top-flight club. I love knowing that we play the most exciting football in the league bar none, but that we're also the best side at contested ball (by a mile, too). I love feeling confident and I love having genuine belief.

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
