I think you have been working at the ABC too long and don't understand how commercial tv makes money. In case that is true, i'll remind you. From ratings.

Do you honestly believe a carlton v tigers game would rate better on Thursday night than a dees v tigers game, or a dogs v tigers or game or a swans v tigers game, or a hawks v tigers game. Surely not and if that is the case your argument that they would choose Carlton to play in that game (assuming of course they had that influence) does not hold water.

Yes it’s all about ratings and the old school Big 4 Victorian clubs still rate

We are not in that niche..yet

We have to earn it

Earn it? By playing boring, no score football and routinely getting flogged.

Speaking of flogging you are flogging a dead horse

Carlton don't rate. Period.

You really think Ch 7 are just given the fixture the AFL gives them after paying such a hi price?

i can assure you it doesn’t work like that, Ch 7 have a massive say in how the fixture is constructed.

You may not like it and nor do i, but Carlscum have 16 cups and the majority of them have been won since 1965, when TV ? started to seriously cover the game.

Our victories are on 16mm newsreels

that is the difference

Good enough to change the rules on Player/Payer contact too....hmmm

I never said they dont have any influence. Just not as much as some ie you seem to think.

As i have said, their main influence is the days games are played and starting times (eg the thurs night game, tge sun 3:40 games which run into tge news etc etc). There us no doubt a huge element of the push to a twilight (and eventually a night game) grand final is the value  for broadcasters.

But you are plain wrong about carlton. So what they have been successful in the tv era. That is frankly a ridiculous argument that holds zero water. Their games DO NOT RATE. Because they are [censored] to watch and routinely get flogged. Neither their cups or dwindling fan base  changes those facts.

Ill bet london to a brick that if the game is a fizzer there will discussion in the media about how poor the ratings were and taking the game off them an

Well go in and argue it at HSV 7

I have seen paperwork, the Big 4 clubs in Victoria still hold clout, They WANT Carlscum back up there, we will not get the same assistance because since Videotape was used (1965) The MFC has done nothing signifigant

We are not thought of as winners, we are classed as an easy kill, and that does not sell advertising  I worked at GTV 9 before going to the ABC, i know how advertising drives a TV Station, and they are getting more desperate

Channel 7 have spent $Millions, they need quick returns and that in Melboure, which is the biggest audience comes from the old “Big 4”

Advertisers want to be seen on certain games, we are plan B at this stage

That’s why we are still given 3.30 Sunday games. We fill the quota, but do not shape it. Until we win big games regularly that will not change

This is why we all have to stop supporting the Big4 on Free2Air TV.

Do not watch them in Prime Time.

The longer we keep propping Up they're numbers in ratings, we make it harder on ourselves to get ratings that AID our own growth back up to where we Once belonged.

Beating those 4 teams (and Whorethorn) is the only way things will change DV8

By doing that a new Generation of kids will wear the Red and Blue

See there are two Saturday night games scheduled for 31 March.

There is Lions v MFC starting at 7:25pm Melbourne time; and

Freo v Bombers starting at 8:10pm Melbourne time

Yes Channel 7 will be showing the Bombers game

Wonder what's on 7 mate????

In Perth the first game I see on TV FTA is rd5 Anzac eve.

Actually in the first 11 ads I can see two games on tv.  v Tigers and v bombers.

So if your in Melbourne no excuse to winge as you can go to most games.

I agree.

But there no point US propping up the power clubs numbers watching their prime time home games as supporters; when it is so bloody hard to get our ratings up.

By doing that, we just add to their ratings numbers. at our own detriment.

And look at edi-everywhere. he tries to portray QB/day game as the pies own home game. 'full of it' that one.  Such is the arrogance of maintaining their hold over the rest of the stragglers within the competition.

We have to stand up to these teams, boycotting won’t help the cause.

We have to beat them up so the Networks trust the MFC with pulling in an audience.

We did well under John Northey with TV, but it tapered off

sywhl i give up. You obviously cannot be persuaded by logic.

You don’t pay the Bills

the 7 Network does

My Logic is based on Data collected since 1965. “The Big 4” as they are referred to (plus Whorethorn) collect the highest revenue.

Your logic is looking at maybe the last 2 years

This is a truism and its antidote is going to be '...aiding our own growth...'

Before the electronic media, we were not part of the Big 4, we were the Big 1.  Collingwood was the Big 2. South Melb, Ess, Geel, StK and Rich, Foots were the rest, in essence. What changed was the continued lack of success. That is our growth factor, underpinned by a diaspora of multiple inputs and outputs along the way. The latter being the stage that we are currently just re-entering since 2015. We need to be in a position, as a Club, where change occurs for their own benefit within both the AFL and Channel 7 (and/or any other media attempting to become so sublime). Just let it all grow for us.

For $50 bucks a month you can get Foxtel Basic and Sports pack

All games plus the bonus of NO ADDS during play

I forego 10 cups of coffee per month and it's paid for

I don't care what C 7 put on.   You can cancel the sports pack at the end of the season

Correct. We have to make the change. We have to earn a spot in the “Big 4” it won’t be given.

It is obvious that Ch 7 want Carlscum to improve, they have given them an armchair ride since Judd was bought in under dodgy guidlines.

But we can displace them with some serious wins over 2-3 years.

Top 4 consistently over 2-5 seasons would do it. Our ancient history would then benefit us, until then Carlscum will still be favoured. They do have 4 decades of credits in the bank

Have you seen the ratings for individual foxtel shows?

FTA is still where it's at from an exposure viewpoint

Simple, watch the power teams on Fox, and NOT on Prime-Time Free2Air.

Do Not watch the D's on Fox in Prime-Time, but watch on Free2Air Prime Time to help kick-start our Free2Air ratings.

Every little bit helps this club climb back up.

If people don't do the little things, they are simply relying on others, Our club, the TV networks, the AFL, etc and other clubs, to help us.

We have to do all things we supporters can,  to help rebuild this club.

It can't be done just on the luck of the draw and on recruits from drafting or trading.

The club is on the improve with the list, So NOW is the time for the supporters to Lend a BIG Hand,,, and to help in ALL the little ways possible.

The way we view our footy, is crucial to getting Free2Air Prime-Time time slots.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
