Port Melbourne 'The Borough' in Financial Troubles!

The Borough is in deep financial problems with debts of 300K!

I'm a Port boy & grew up watching them play on Sundays as they have the same theme song A grand Old Flag and similar colours!

Always  thought that we should have been aligned to them....But it would be a shame if we lost such a club!

You can buy memberships for $70

Sad to hear that. Seems to be a growing trend in the VFL for those standalone clubs.

Hopefully they can be rescued

The Mortal Enemy of the Sandringham Zebras back in the 70's and 80's

for that reason i could never buy a membership to Port

But i hope they survive. Long term doesn't look good

I think this might be old news. The club has been in financial trouble but with a new board and a new president, measures have been put in place to get them out of their current difficulties. Too much football tradition has already been lost - we don't need to lose another of the game's icons.

been paying players over $$ for the past 4-5 years to stay competitive.

AFL should try to supplement if possible or they will struggle either off or on field

Loved watching Fred Cook kick a bag each week at Port when I was young. One of the true characters of footy, good and bad. The old VFA grand finals were always an eventful day. Port featured in many.

Hopefully the AFL will ensure that the standalone clubs can compete with the aligned clubs and be financially sound. They are crucial to the talent pool as they have more list spots more chances for non drafted players and late developers who were not part of the elite junior pathways.

Maybe Port could license their famed game day burger.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
