He has also demonstrated multiple times that he's capable of having 30 touches and kicking goals as well, at his age we are really looking to see what he'll be able to do more and more consistently and I think he's clearly shown he is a mid who can impact the scoreboard

If he can hit the scoreboard, then he doesn't do it often enough, because 11 goals from 21 matches is hardly a great result, and that is coming off the back of a 6 goal season the year before. I don't disagree that he isn't a good player, I agree that he is, but he isn't a goal kicking midfielder. At least, he isn't yet.

I think you just agreed with me in a round about sort of way, he can do it, and when he does it consistently he will be huge for us. 

6 to 11 to say 17-20 this year would have him well on the way in my opinion

The AFL stepped in to resuscitate the club after the Nield debacle because they could not allow the founding club in the AFL to fail. It necessitated certain support.  First of all to get the management right, and to do this to attract the likes of Jackson, and eventually Roos required certain guarantees from them. Most of what then followed was initiated by Jackson.

The deal with the MCC was largely based around getting Melbourne supporting MCC members to sign up as MFC Associate members, and to get the MCC to adequately compensate the club no matter what the crowd, currently the guaranteed amount is I think $100,000 but obviously a lot more when we get very big crowds at home games like Richmond and the Woods. These arrangements were largely driven by Jackson. 

In other words the AFL set the environment by getting the right people, but largely then let them get on with it. We all should be immensely grateful that we were able to attract people of the calibre of Jackson and Roos, but the AFL set the scene, they made it happen, which is after all their primary role as good managers of the competition. We are by no means the first for this to happen and won't be the last. Neither should we be.

it may even happen at Carlton, but somehow I doubt it: they are still as arrogant as ever and don't want anyone's help. If they continue to fail though, the AFL will step in. Their profile after all is very similar to ours, and the AFL will not let them fail completely.

That's pretty much my recollection and I believe a hefty chunk of the 1.4 restructure money was used to pay out Neeld and others who were deemed surplus to ongoing requirements.

I also recall that Demetriou facilitated a meeting between the club and Jackson and while he actively promoted the union, it wasn't an AFL appointment. And we got Roos because PJ refused to take no for an answer.

 

Nonetheless, to the other clubs' supporters, the AFL gave us Roos and Jackson and all our good players are from the multiple priority picks we are gifted each year.

Whatever assistance we received Biff it pales into insignificance when compared to the bottomless pits that are GWS & the Suns.

Same as I said after round 1 last year, today will show if we have turned the corner or are just having a peak around it.
