As you would know, I support the current TAC Cup premiers, the Sandringham Dragons having had a minor role in their early days as Central Dragons and later the Prahran Dragons.

Like the Bulldogs, this team achieved their premiership success coming from outside the top four and making the grand final and winning the flag by playing four sudden death finals.

The Dragons should produce at least four top 20 draft picks in November and this bloke could easily be the fifth. His is also a pretty heart wrenching story -

Oliver Florent will miss his father forever but is inspired by him too

What an absolutely wonderful son.

He is the sort of person I would love to have at our club.

A beautiful and inspirational story.  The 'sentimental old fool' in me says that I hope we somehow manage to draft Oliver, but I know that's very, very unlikely.  Good luck to him wherever he ends up, which will hopefully be a Victorian club where he can continue to be a 'rock' of support for his mum.

I played tennis with his dad as a junior at Wellington Tennis club.  He was a star and very humble.  Lots of fun. Always enjoyed a laugh. The family was wonderful and Olivers grandfather Reg was a great bloke always smiling.

Oliver is top 20 quality.  I think the Hawks at pick 14 would be great but they will need that for pick O'Meara or Tom Mitchell. Olivers dad was a keen Hawks man.

Bulldogs would be a nice location at pick 18.

Excellent article and a great kid. He would be an inspiration and an asset at any club and I hope it's at the Dees.

Unless Melbourne trades out a young promising star and gives up on Hibberd...

Our 1st pick is 46ish !!

Florent is top 15-20

Wow. What an inspiring young man.  Brought a tear to my one eye.  Imagine another Ollie. But I guess it is just imagine unless somehow a higher pick is conjured up like last year and the Weed.  No idea from where though.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.

The Demons were sloppy all day and could not stop the run and carry of the fast moving Hawthorn as the Hawks cruised to an easy 36 point win. Is the season over yet?
