And if the rain arrives as expected the 10yo mudlark's odds may get quite skinny.

Drawn wide and there is plenty of early pace but even 2 or 3 wide on the pace over 1000m will suit the horse if we reach a Soft7 or worse.

Got one for us Gorg?

Nah I don’t, I usually struggle big time at Moonee Valley, for some reason I can’t do well there.

Well actually if you want something that won’t win but good chance to place is R7, no 8 La tigeresa.

It's no certainty we'll even make it to R8 at the moment...

Nice pick DZ

Only audio today but the 4yo lightly raced mare looked quite impressive by the sounds of it. Won with a leg in the air!  Bit better than Highway class you'd reckon.

And the ADATR crew were heading for a near certain double if Jungle Edge had have had a chance to run.

But I got the win & exacta from your choice so can't complain.

Too true RF ... welcome to the thread by the way.  The more the merrier I say.

I bet all around Oz on a Saturday arvo so the Valley being called off wasn't that annoying.

How good was Verry Elleegant yesterday?  A crack field and she did a lot of work and then fought back and won after being headed.  Gutsy win.

I was on Master of Wine (with a bit of an interest bet) but the horse needed the run.

Thanks @Macca. Have been a keen reader for some time, but now being home all weekend rather than somewhere like, I don't know, the footy I thought it was a good time to dive in.

Yes likewise, I was looking more at Randwick (out first leg of the quaddie didn't help) and Morphettville where went ok in the last. I never seem to go well at the Valley.

Looking forward to Caulfield and the Memsie on Saturday.

Some Group 1 replays from the weekend and late last week (Part 1)

Group 1's from the weekend (Part 2)

8 Stakes races out of Melbourne & Sydney on Saturday but the main interest will focus on the Memsie Stakes at Group 1 level (Caulfield) An excellent field has been assembled and as a result,  it's a good betting race.

Got told earlier in the week that Bowing in race 6 at Pakenham this Friday night was a good chance, opened at 7, into 5.50 already.

Ok, well looks like the Group action starts up again this Saturday, so i guess were are back @Macca @Dee Zephyr @rolling fog @Gorgoroth

Welcome to Rolling Fog also !

We dont have any hard and fast rules here really, but we all usually enter a Best Bet for the weekend preferably by Friday night, so that everyone has time to read the thread and put a few coins on the selections. Make sure you enter: The Meeting venue, race number and horse name and number and whether your selection is for a win (W) or place (P) and its current market price $, so there is no confusion. I always tally them up for a multi with the figure, but you can use the bets anyway you damn well like !

We dont keep scores and we dont care if the selections dont win. Its more for the comradary, fun and teamwork. We only say that there is only 1 selection in any given race. ie: if someone has put a selection in for a certain race, then no other horse in that race can be selected.(saves arguments) .

Lets have a great Spring carnival, thank god for the races during lockdowns and go the  mighty Red & Blue.

Stay safe.

Biffen & JV7 grace us with their presence from time to time as well, Wadda.

When I saw Rubisaki listed in the last race I just knew it would be your best bet!  An ADATR favourite along with Osborne Bulls and a few others.

Gator likes Arcadia Queen in the Memsie Stakes and I'm on at $8.50 ... but it's not my best bet.  Need some more think time but I've got a couple in mind.

Yes, i see, well all welcome of course. I was trying to think who else drops by....so cheerio @Biffen and @JV7

Memsie at Caulfield always signals the beginning of Spring to me and always a tough race. Sure was a spring day up here Macca....chooks went mad !

Weve had a few retirements since the Autumn and some of our favs notably, Super Seth, Microphone and Loving Gaby. Loving Gabys injury was not career threatening and she would have only missed the Spring. Unfortunately, dare i say it, greedy connections made the decision to go to stud. We sure didnt see the best of her and thats a pity.

Yep,  it's not just the Colts that are retired early these days but as always,  the new breed take centre stage to replace those retirements.

Another star we'll never see again is Yes Yes Yes.  That performance in the Everest last year was breathtaking (I only wish I'd backed it!)

The cups will be different with way more local representation.  A reminder of how things once were Wadda.

We might even see a lightweight Aussie horse get into the Melbourne Cup field a la the way Bart used to get his runners in.  I do miss those days when that scenario would happen regularly.

I follow a few tipsters as lets face it, they are going to know a lot more than I will ever know!

Notably Gator (David Gately) in Melbourne and James Jordan in Adelaide but Paul Joice up in Sydney is also quite good.  More so at plucking out a real roughie.  So here's his roughie for Saturday.

Rosehill Race 4 No.9 Merlinite $41 (Win) $6 (Place) Glen Boss is on board.

Make of that what you will.

Gotta big tip on RACE 3 No 7 AT CAULFIELD.

MY GOLD BRACELET.

Been smashed into 5s.

NZ form good, being set for Cox Plate where it is listed simply as Gold Bracelet.

There is another horse in OZ named Gold Bracelet which won in Taree this week.

I also reckon Begoodtoyamother and Humma Humma are at ridiculous odds at Caulfied today.

Well done Gorgo !

Won very well. Good runs to Morrissy and Reykjavik also....

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
