Any tips for Geelong tomorrow send them through I am off on holidays so mid week betting more than acceptable!

Prince Of Arran drawn barrier 11, not ideal but is the $3.50 favorite at the moment.

The Cup has about 5 main chances including Steel Prince with Oliver on Board (R7 No.11)

And Oliver is on a good chance in Race 6 ... No.7  'O'tauto' (13-1)  Good each-way odds for a horse that gets into the finish a lot.  And it has raced at Group level.  Good first up form as well.  But each-way.

Likes to get home late but has drawn wide to get back anyway.  Up against 'Harbour Views' & 'Impi' but I rate O'tauto' as being as good as those 2.

As for our dearth of stayers and middle distance perforners ... it comes down to the horse buying public.  No good blaming the A-end of the problem (the actual horses)

The buyers want sprinters only so that's what we breed.  So it's entirely our own fault

No good blaming the 'Invaders' either.  We opened the door with our quest for instance results so again,  we are to blame.

Prince should win, but 8 d9 like Supernova and as a roughy Red Carnival.

Replay time ... including a look back at Shadow Hero's win in the Champions Stakes run last week at Randwick (lining the horse up against 'Thought Of That' in the Derby - also replayed)

As well as the Caulfield Cup & The Everest.

I reckon one of the Prince's wins.  'Steel Prince' is looking for the 2400m or more (with Oliver on board) whilst 'Prince of Arran' is the class in the race.  Supernova should be thereabouts too.

'Haky' will probably be leading upon settling down and might run a bold race.

And with $240k on the line for winning the Geelong Cup they'll all be going all-out for the win.

Thanks for the Tip @macca, I got on O’tauto.
got Prince in the cup and then had 1st, 2nd, 4th in a trifecta. And a photo at that!

I got the trifecta in the Cup as I thought 'Haky' might run a bold race so had to include it (as previously stated - see post #3856)

O'tauto was a good place bet (in all reality) but you've always got to have a little on for the win.  A 3/7 split works ok.  Still,  Harbour Views looks a horse for the future.  Odds too short today though.

Nice get on the trifecta!

I rarely,  if ever,  get the full percentage Gorg but a nice 3 figure return,  all the same.  Small outley,  half decent return is my motto.

I really like the Country Cups as betting races.  Seem to have the luck in them for some reason.

Thought it was a good ride from Walker on Prince of Arran. Got him across from the wide barrier & at the turn once he had a clear run I didn't think anything would chase him down

Nice work Macca and good call on Haky.

Used a bonus bet on Supernova so no real damage there, was lucky enough to get on Long Jack in the Classic. Apparently this colt was too ‘fired’ up in the mounting yard its last two starts hence the not so flash showings, must have behaved today, thought it won well.

Interested to read the crew’s thoughts on the Cox. Shaping up as a ripper.

Pulled an 11hr day, so instead of going home and cooking for one (wife training) I went to the pub for a steak Santa and a stout. Race going at Geraldton, put a trifecta on and it wins paying $68.

Well there is the meal, beer easily paid for, got some poppies for rememberance day and off home to put the feet up.

Seems Lys Gracieux has been the range all week after trainer Yoshito Yahagi claims it is a far superior horse than Caulfield Cup winner Mer De Glace... His comments sold me & I got on early in the week thinking it would come in but it has drifted slighty... But wont be complaining if it gets up

Saturday Best

Randwick

Race 6 No.7 Master Of Wine $2.40

Well, I’ve narrowed the Cox Plate down to about 10 runners, as open as it’s ever been. I think it might be heading overseas.

Castelvecchio might be worth a little something each way at the weight.

It will tighten a little i reckon. Because it is the best horse by a mile.

The track will be firm as there has been basically no rain today (so won't chop out tonight) and it will be windy tomorrow, drying out the track and making it hard for leaders (my understanding is Lys Gracieux is very versatile - has the speed to start quick from his wide barrier and get a good smother up 4th or 5th, or can sit at the back and has the brilliance to quicken from the back and make a sustained run over the last 400. Look at out WFA races this spring. This horse is better than out best by panels. I mean Black Heart Bart is carrying 2 more kilos - 4 lengths. Please.

Currently at 3.70 which i reckon is well overs. Only the wide draw and the queries about travelling and being first up at the valley (and the massive pool) have stopped it getting into something like 2.50 or shorter. So great value. I plan to launch at  it. And a have throw at the stumps in exotica with only internationals, who i think will fill the first four placings.

I'm going to get in early and even without having done my form make it my best bet for the day.

Moonee Valley: Race 9 number 9 Lys Gracieux  @ 3.70

Well I gave everyone the heads up on Haky Wadda!

Held on for 3rd.  And that's what I was banking on when putting on the trifecta.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
