We could possibly trade back in to the draft, but at some stage we need to back ourselves, stop getting younger and actually have a crack.

Jones has little trade value, although GC could do with a steady depth player, which is why he would get us a trade up from what would hopefully be about pick 26 to pick 22.

There's talk Lyons wants out, possibly back to Victoria (source) and I wouldn't be surprised to see ANB (ranked 5th best player in the VFL) wanting more opportunities back home in SA.

Also, just for reference, Matt Jones output this year is not far behind Lyons', so I don't think it's fair to say one is worth a lot and the other nothing.

Not even close in terms of output

Matt Jones, 10 games 1 goal, 205 disposals, 45 marks, 35 tackles
Jarryd Lyons, 19 games 15 goals, 414 disposals, 66 marks, 92 tackles,

Lyons is 25, Jones 29, not even close in terms of value either. Jones is worth nothing

Clearly a lot of people have no idea what the word "realistic" means.

Vardy would be the best pick up on that list if he could stay fit.  Sadly he is as fragile as a wet tissue.

4 games in the last 3 years, too injury prone for mine Billy, spends as much time on the sidelines as Meeson did

Current 2nd rounder for Hibberd

Future 1st rounder and Garland for Hoskin-Elliot, Tomlinson (hasn't signed yet) and GWS pick 17 this year

On-trade pick 17 to Port for Hartlett

ANB and pick 45 to Adelaide for Lyons and pick 50

Matt Jones and future 2nd rounder to Gold Coast for pick 22

Sorry stuie, but pretty sure the future trading of picks rules state that if you trade your future 1st Round Pick you can't trade any of your other future picks.

You can trade any number of 2nd, 3rd, 4th round picks though.

You really going to use totals to make a point when one player played half as many games (mostly due to injury)?

Ridiculous.

How about comparing their averages? And after that, maybe realize I'm not saying they're as good as each other, but their values aren't what "Ethan" says when he says one is worth heaps and the other nothing.

Jones 20.5 disposals, 4.5 marks, 3.5 tackles, 0.1 goals

Lyons 21.8 disposals, 3.5 marks, 4.8 tackles, 0.8 goals

Edit - Oh but if you want to use totals like a rookie, you should see the Matt Jones v Fyfe stats, Jones must be going to win the Brownlow!

You do realise Jones is 29 and Lyons 25, one struggles to get a game for a bottom eight side, the other plays every week in a top 4 side. You won't find anyone apart from yourself who thinks Jones is even close to Lyons in terms of value, it's ridiculous to even suggest so

Ok, maybe go back and read a bit more slowly champ, because nowhere did I say there values are the same. What I did actually say was it's silly to overrate one and underrate the other given their output is not that far apart. You do realize I wasn't suggesting trading Jones for Lyons right? I'll give you a minute to back and read...

You used totals, as did I. It was a nice attempt at warping the facts but you were caught out.

Caught out...lol...i misread the trade, i'm happy to admit when i'm wrong, but you did say output is similar. I stand by what i said, their output is not even close, nor is their value, Matt Jones is worth nothing, insult away Stuie

Saty did you go to the last training session of the season ? If so, did you happen to see what number Corey Maynard was wearing ?

We need pace and skill through the midfield and some decent ruck backup. I don't like the thought of picking up one of those 30+ guys. We're not in the window yet, so it would be pretty pointless. Witts or Vardy would be handy, probably Vardy given the Pies are terrible to trade with. Targeting one of the fleet of mids from the Doggies would also be helpful. I'd also take Zac Clark as a better ruck option than Spencer.

Fair play DN9.

But, I didn't say their values were close. I was merely pointing out that it's silly to say Lyons has a very high worth but Jones has 0 worth when Jones' output this year is not that far behind Lyons'.

Here's the stats again:

Jones 20.5 disposals, 4.5 marks, 3.5 tackles, 0.1 goals

Lyons 21.8 disposals, 3.5 marks, 4.8 tackles, 0.8 goals

Now let me reiterate, I'm in no way saying they are the same worth, I'm merely pointing out that Jones' worth is more than 0, especially if "Ethan" is going to argue Lyons has a very high worth.

Fair point Stuie, i get what you mean, i conceed defeat :). I still think Lyons at his age would get a decent trade, maybe a pick in the 30-40 range ?

I really rate Lyons, Jones is nowhere near the same worth, that's why I had Jones going for a slight pick upgrade and Lyons going for ANB a a pick upgrade for Adelaide, might not be enough, but wouldn't be too far off IMO.

I tried to used as much logic as I have (minimal) to do my trade scenario and it seems Lyons wants out, Adelaide will want to get up the draft a bit, and ANB could well seek more opportunity back home, so that's my reasoning behind that part of it.

Pretty sure I made mention of his injury history in my post.

For me it would be:

Hogan re-signs long term

We get Hibberd for our second round pick

Add an experienced player, who can contribute on and off the field, as a DFA or as part of another deal.

Offload players who aren't going to make us better going forward - Dawes, Terlich and Grimes head that list.

I don't think we'll do much more than that this year.
