Cam Pedersen re-signs for 2016

Featured Replies

A few of what players..... injury prone, over paid and inept at taking a one grab mark out in front of their bodies ???

Id be giving him the Jamar treatment next year, IMO has played maybe 10- 12 good games since arriving at the club.

Can any one recall a Dawes pack mark ?

Took a cracker down in front of me at Simmonds earlier in the year. Took two really good marks that day. Reckon he took 10 to 15 really strong marks all year. Says a great deal, unfortunately.

I don't think so at all. I'm not quite sure how you can say Pedersen getting a one year deal reflects badly on Dawes. I think you're the one drawing the long bow. It's more likely to mean Dawes is rated incredibly highly internally and that Pedersen is merely back up at this stage, otherwise surely he would have got a two or three year deal instead...

Ugh.... Old, slow & now injury prone.

Hardly a morale-boosting signing, and more of a white flag for our trade period.

Amazing how much of a superstar he's apparently become since being out almost the whole year.... #PedoMyths

Hyperbole 101.

No one believes he's a superstar except you Stue. A one year signing probably on minimal coin. Most on here are positive about it, so given trade period is weeks away, yes, it's a small boost to supporter morale. If anything, it tells me the club is more likely to focus on mids during the trade/draft period.

this is over exaggerated, but ok, i'll play. Say he did take that amount. How many, "good marks" do other 500k+ forwards take all year from other teams. I bet more, a lot more. I bet they score goals too.

Actually, now looking it up, Jesse Hogan is ranked 3rd in the AFL for contested marks in a season with 47 out of 20 games.

Chris on the other is ranked 76th with 15 out of 14 games. Jeremy Howe, Daniel Cross, Max Gawn, Tom Mcdonald, all beat him.

Cam pederson had 10 contested marks out of only 7 GAMES!!!!

I could break down there stats more if you like. but really...

Please explain?

It gives them both motivation to grab that number 2 spot next to Hogan or risk having their careers cut short by a couple of years. I can't say for sure this is the thinking behind offering Pedersen the one year deal, but if it is, it's a nice strategy, IMO.

I wouldn't be surprised if we target a KPF at the end of 2016. We'll need to. I could see our first pick going out the window. That is if we can land one or two A grade mids this off season.

I don't disagree with you about whether Dawes is value for his money or not, mate. All I'm saying is that Pedersen signing a one year deal has very little to do with Dawes.

Like how Chris had more contested marks per game than Nick Riewoldt, Mumford, NicNat, Goodes, Buddy, Pavlich or Tex Walker?

Chris IMO has been disappointing, but not as bad as some of the hysterical here claim. The fact is, the rare times Roos has had Dawes and Pedo to pick from, he has chosen the former

Cam ; despite our combined reservations over the years , has proven competent.

Not magical. ..not brilliant. ..not 'a'....but adequate.

He's handy.

Here are the Dawes/Pederson stats for people. As i have said in other threads, it is unfortunate/ridiculous Dawes is on the money he is on. The Pedo is great for what we have got, but isn't the long term fix. But he is a great stop-gap until we draft/trade/develop another. The year deal is great, pending what happens this trade period/next year.

Pederson Dawes

Age: 28 Age: 27

Salary: 250-300k (?) Salary: 500k+

Av. hb: 6.0 Av. hb: 4.8

Av. Disp: 12.6 Av. Disp: 11.9

Av. Mark: 5.3 Av. Mark: 4.3

Av. Hit Outs: 3.3 Av. Hit out: 3.1

Frees for: 1.0 Frees for: 1.5

Frees against: 0.7 Frees against: 1.1

For anyone playing at home, which one is worth the money?! Silly question. For people like Stuie to write The Pedo off is laughable. He isn't amazing in terms of AFL standards but he is bloody cheap and far better than what we have got in terms of supporting Hogan, until we draft/trade/develop someone else.

please see all stats above.

please see all stats above.

Please point out where I say I think Dawes is better value for money.

Please let us know why Roos picks Dawes before Pedo? Is it just the paycheck?

i actually can't answer that. it baffles me. Ask some of the other crew on here, they have come up with some weird reasons. All i can think of is pride because of the pay check. But look at the stats and taking into consideration that The Pedo only played 7 games for the season, the fact he was lolling around in the magus is weird.

Maybe one plays the way he is instructed to by the coach more than the other?

Don't see how pride due to paycheck could even be considered by anyone esp considering Dawes was recruited by Neeld...

i totally get that, I'm clutching at straws really, as are the rest of the D'land community. haven't heard one good reason/argument yet.

If Dawes plays to instructions then either they are wrong or misunderstood.

Congrats to Pedders. Reckon he was showing good signs before injury, taking some really strong grabs and holding his own in the ruck. Happy with the one year deal.

Good solid player. Hope this means Dawes is gone.

Lol. As has been said, why would they get rid of Dawes if they've only signed Pedersen for one year?

Might have lined up a tall forward in a trade

and Dawes is terrible, so the Peddy Bear wins.

I think if he'd been signed to a three year deal, that would have possibly said something for Dawes, but this one year deal actually says, "you'll be playing second string, unless you prove your worth again".

FWIW, I think he's actually a more damaging role player than Dawes.

well now Dawes & Pedo both come off contract together, this time next season..... so both will be competing, most likely against one another, for games.

I'd keep pedo as the backup, if I had the choice, & sell off dawes; who next year may be just a strike through.

Can we have this removed on the grounds its too factual.

Ok I get where your coming from now but it's still the lesser of two evils. Pedo for me easily.

With regards to targeting a KPF, that's easier said than done. Are we better of drafting one this year and giving them a development year at Casey why we still have Dawes and Pedo for a year.

Could we get Redden without using our first round pick?

We were never going to find a trade suitor for Pedersen. I haven't seen the stats, but I'd be interested to see who had the better scoring stats. Would prefer Pedersen in my team most weeks over Dawes.

All their stats are pretty much identical, however one is in the leadership group, has premiership experience, and isn't exhausted after 15 minutes game time...

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
