Post Match Discussion - Round 21

Featured Replies

Like most fans i have endured some woeful days at the footy. But i don't recall ever being as disappointed and fed up as yesterday. At least in the late 70's and eighties we had Robbie to watch when we ere getting flogged.

Yesterday was beyond pathetic. So many week efforts. Could pick any number out but Dawes and Lumumba top of my list. And although i've always been a fan Garland was also woeful yesterday.

For some reason i assumed it was a home game so my day started poorly when i had to cough up $25. Adding my annoyance was that as usual - and despite there being a crowd of over 30k the bar at the top of the Ponsford (where i sit) was closed. Drives me nuts, particularly when the lame answer from staff is that it is because staffing cost too much. So i pay $25 to subsidize the bloody g. If they charge full price you should get full bloody amenity. And of course a biggish crowd means the one bar open in the stand has massive lines.

Agree 100% with George on the Outer game review. One of the reasons i went and gave up family time was the statements from Roos and Rawlings that we would be fired up. Well we weren't. It was embarrassing. making it somehow worse was our predicable second half come back. We could have actually won if we had kicked straight and not missed some sitters and we if stopped just kicking to to their spare defender.

To top things off Cripps killed us and perhaps sewed up the Risng Star, costing me more money.

The only positives for mine was Michie, who had a go and apart from Watts is just about the only player who seems to be able to master the basic skills of kicking to a forwards advantage. Watts was also good i thought, took a nice contested mark and laid a great tackle, which he scored form.

A woeful day that just about taken the wind out my sails when it come to the dees.

I really have to wonder if this side believes they are far better than what they are. We have won games against some of the better sides in the competition but run out onto the field and loose the ones we should be winning against undermanned VFL sides.

really have not seen any where near the desperation the dogs, blues, saints and bombers showed.

Better than what they are?

The issue is most definitely that they think they're worse than what they are. Not better.

Agree entirely.

I'd love the players to think they're better than what they are. A bit of confidence would be lovely. The side is clearly devoid of it.

This does get funny we are discussing degrees of poor performance.

They are ordinary no matter what they think.

how was it today in the first qtr, we badly needed a goal and OF COURSE a completely soft free went against us in the goal square costing Hogan the chance to kick an easy one after winning a contest - he absolutely heard the whistle and knew it would be 50-metre-penalty but he slammed it through anyway out of sheer frustration. It was a bad look IMO, he put his own emotion before the team, but also it spoke volumes about how he is currently feeling about being part of such an inept side. Not good.

to be honest he was fairly inept himself

to be honest he was fairly inept himself

no he wasn't, he was in a 50-50 contest in which the ball went to ground and using strength and agility he got the ball and skirted around his man for what should have been a well-deserved goal

if you're talking about the day in general, you have a stronger point. Needed to nail those ones in the first qtr before the miserable tone of the game was set

i was referring to whole game

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.
