Dion prestia is gettable. Seriously considered our offer last time, we are much better now and the suns culture seems to be struggling.

Under contract. Even if he does want out (and GC will fight damn hard to keep him) the asking price would be very high. Treloar still obtainable time to up the offer.

Treloar would still need to be traded, even if he isn't under contract.

Treloar and Shiel were never realistic targets in my opinion.

Prestia & Coniglio would be mine, albeit still unrealistic.

As an observation we seem to be , as a group, still with some focus of getting that "glamour star" , you know, the one that will fix everything !! File under "saviour complex"

Whilst not adverse to such if one should happen to fall our way Id be looking for very solid B graders with some potential. OUr midfield really hasnt much depth. It will get better over time as our own fold develop but the injection of some simply decent footballers who can play a role will provide amazing dividends. Think in terms of Cross. Hes a very steady and solid contributor. Not saying find that age bracket necessarily but we need good honest decent footballers.. We need mids.Capable ones, dont need to be shiny star like . Theres far more pawns on a board than knights or bishops !!

So if we lower our sights just a tad, who can we get.Thats where Id be looking

Watts won't be traded.

Say it after me

Watts won't be traded........

Gone include

Jones

Bail

Mckenzie

Jamar

Spencer

Terlich

Grimes

I can see us offload maybe 1 under contract player ( Evans Last Year ) but even though I don't rate either I think of M.Jones / Terlich will stay.

Grimes IMO will be jettisoned

Watts won't be traded.

Am inclined to agree in the main. Anyone is tradable supposedly . Watts might be if the offer is right. Cant see the club shopping him, but might filed offers.....why wouldnt you.

M Jones...times up me thinks. Bail, been serviceable but we need better. Jordie. Not enough strings to bow for us, might fill a specific role elsewhere...might happen.

Jamar...might retire to the west of Sin city

Spencer..hmm..if Russian goes, he might be required as back up lest we trade in someone. Terlich...is alas Terlich  .....next

Grimes. hmm. .An interesting one...Would keep ( for now ) but field offers .

Fitzy...id shop around. Michie id field offers Riley..Field offers

Howe...is probably gone....play hard ball (as best as can )

Cross id like to keep if hes up to it.

Trenners..(insert any of a dozen opinions ) reality is he has much to prove to remain on list...just saying

Hunt....is he relevant ? Might make way for others if needed..or not.

Pretty much agree.

Grimes, Terlich and Spencer are contracted till 2017.

Grimes has probably done enough to stay as depth.

He may request a trade to play more seniors. Tigers, Ess, Bulldogs might be interested.

Spencer has trade currency as a few clubs looking for ruckman eg Ess and Bulldogs

Howe may opt to go.

Garland may be gone as UFA.

Would add Dawes for a trade (admit to my bias here).

Riley (and maybe Mitchie) is OOC this year so they are vulnerable.

That is 10-12 changes before any serious trading.

We have Petracca and Trengove to come in next year and are still developing Stretch and ANB, I would be focussing on our KPPs particularly our backline. Would love to recruit a dogged shut down defender to team up with McDonald, I have lost faith in Dunn and Garland. Ideally I'd like to offer Dunn up for trade, I recon Garland will leave under FA- I'd have Frost as the perfect replacement for him

a more aggressive frog pizz artist?

I was thinking more the last four syllables of bull frog [censored] artist ...

Coniglio would be the one for me...

I think Roos knows who has and hasn't got trade value, hence why he is keeping certain players in the seniors, and others at Casey. He's also talking up specific players, which I'm in no doubt is a bid to lift their value again.

My opinion...

Players Roos believes have trade value;

Watts - Roos saying he has the smartest footy IQ on the team, and that we are a better team when he is in. Really? He's either saying that for Jack's confidence, or he's showing the footy world that Jack would be a valuable pick up for the right team.

Howe - Played forward and back, showing how versatile he is. Now he's up forward again and kicking some goals. Probably the highest trade value of any "unsafe" players in my view.

Players on the borderline (ie need games in the second part of the season to determine where they are at);

Grimes

M Jones

Bail

Fitzpatrick

Players Roos believes have no trade value;

Terlich

McKenzie

Hunt

I don't see any players outside of the above that will be offered for a trade or delisted. If they want to be moved on, it will cost the receiving club.

I would trade out Spencer for Warnock. I believe Robbie has some talent but has been handled terribly by Carlton.

Strongly disagree. Midfield, midfield, midfield is the focus for mine.

Yep. We need to focus on this area. We still lack 6 or 7 AFL grade midfielders that can rotate through there. A lot of work to be done. Developing from within is also obviously important to bridging this issue.

We'll never develop the young guys properly if they don't have some mature quality around them. We need a genuine A grader, another Vince type, and another vandenBerg/Newton type IMO.

Agreed. The difficulty is having the currency to bring a genuine A grader in. Who do you think we should be looking at there?

So what do we offer?

I had my fingers crossed for Shiel... dammit. I feel like something is in the works but it might not be someone any of us thought of. Think Vince & Tyson but better. I could list off players I would like (Sloane, Danger, and on and on) but I don't see it being someone obvious, possibly someone still contracted even. I also think we'll pluck someone not getting an opportunity at GWS, GC, or even Sydney.

A vandenBeg/newton type? Would that be like an apple/orange?

I don't mean that type of player, I mean that type of pick up. Ready to go but not getting the opportunity.

Yeah, I can see this happening and agree with probably landing someone from GWS, GC or Sydney.

I was of the belief Robbie's major problem is just getting on a park...any park

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
