Hard to tell who to bring in for Tyson if he doesn't come up.. Freo are a very hard and a very good spreading team. Pig dog has the hardness, but he doesn't have the spread/endurance from what little i have seen of him. I think we are really scraping the bottom of the barrel at the moment, the true AFL depth isn't there - what is has bits and peices of an AFL player, but none have the true complete package.

Whats Michie's endurance like (hope he goes well again, do a world of good for his confidence)?

I still like the idea of stretch as the sub, from the sounds of it he has the endurance and spread as well as more polish than most in the VFL (looks angrily at recruiters from past).

Go dees :)

Toughness counts for nothing if you're an average footballer. VDB and Brayshaw are showing more than just hardness, and I think that the wet conditions last Friday suited Michie, who is just a one pacer. I'd hate to see someone like Riley at the centre bounces. Tyson will be a huge loss if he doesn't play.

harsh assessment mo, but it's really about selecting the best available from the pool of possibles for the match in question. You could say the other possibles are average footballers. We are dipping down into the 2s now and the pool of footballers are not the ones we want to see playing. Best fit for the match is the issue.

don't disagree about Tyson.

Watts spent a bit of time with Brendan McCartney and Ben Mathews on a tackling drill

This is music to my ears - can't understand why a weekly tackling session hasn't been part of his normal routine - although this pre-season his groin would have limited its appropriateness.

One question - was Tom Mc training? Assume he was but did he look fine after his second term tightness I was worried he had a very minor tear.

I'd be quite happy with Lumumba taking Tysons place and having Grimes come in and take Lumubas place in the back line if that was the case. Then I'd probably run with Terlich in Jettas spot and Toumpas coming in as the sub for Kent which allows Brayshaw/Michie a full game.

Didn't he have a collision with a goal post on Friday? he's probably suffering a bit of stiffness/soreness and being rested today. Still plenty of time to recover and I doubt he will miss out on Sunday.

Yeah he cannoned into the goal post trying to smoother a goal in the 2nd quarter and spent most of the 2nd half forward. You'd think it would be more of a corkie type injury which usually comes up alright and would explain why he'd be off his feet so early in the week but who knows

I wonder if there is a temptation to play stretch to cover the speed we lose with Kent?

Tommy Mc is fine, always up for a chat, he is like Hogan, he has a specific preparation. recovery and training regime, he is very particular with twinges etc

Not sure whether they would risk Stretch

Maybe Bail for Kent, who knows

Just remembered Fitzy was a no show as well

But as I said before it was a very light session with some guys doing very little, and even those who did everything didn't rate it very high, Crossy came off without even a bead of sweat on him

I reckon they will hide somewhere for the session tomorrow to work on stuff for Freo game

Forgot Michie, he is another one who has had a great pre season, he is feeling really good and fit, expect him to be even better this week, if he was any more laidback off the field he would be asleep

All through the pre season the whole squad had tackling and wrestling sessions, you don't do it vigorously during the season, we have some players who will hurt their team mates, think McCartney has decided to step in with Watts

Why? Riley is called Pig Dog for a reason, he is very good at extracting the ball from stoppages

Michie a one pacer? and this assumption is based on?

Michie is not quick, but he isn't slow either like some make out to be.

bit like Dane Swan and Sam Mitchell.

It's his running between contests that bothers me more than flat out pace, same with Riley. Neither seem to break the lines that much either although Viv was very good at getting on to his right foot and getting a kick in when required on Friday night.

Viv looks ok, has a good boot, just need to make some better decisions about his ball placement. His long kick into Garlett against Rance and another Tiger worked out well, but was a bad decisions by Viv. and I think there were a couple of others.. he links up well by hand and seems to have time.

Except for that F up in the middle of the ground between him and Newton. That was old Melbourne! And got the blood pressure climbing. But probably just a case of 2 players who have never played with each other before.

Michie made a huge difference when he came on - 19 possessions at the coalface in a little over half the game. He was one of the major reasons for us getting 6 goals to 1 after half time.

But by all means, judge a player's performance purely by one or two mistakes.

It's definitely not how the coaching team does it, though.

TDI the VFL report said that Bail had a concussion and missed the 2nd half. Did he train? If Nev is out then Ro with his concussion history would have to miss as well.

Not guilty your honour, that was Newton, it was a left foot kick

One of the barely raised a sweat brigade, did a few laps and went indoors

Did Garland train??

TDI with bails concussion I'd be surprised if he played this week.

Also it sounds like the group that did light sessions were the casey group who have shorter recovery time between games, so makes sense.
