It's taken a dive that's for sure.

Oh well it was good while it lasted

Michie looked ok, Stretch looks good for the future, not much else

Toumpas has been good too.

A few of his efforts on the outer side have been credited to Stretch I think...

Where has Pederson been since half time, injured ?

Stretch and Toump just seem to run all day - understand the structures (they are always in the same position at every stoppage) and use the ball well. Gawn and Spence look too good to vfl. As does Grimes.

He has taken a few good marks, saw him run down someone in the middle of the ground which resulted in a Grimes miss under no pressure from 40m.

The commentary is not reliable as they commonly get the players wrong or don't call them at all. It is a tough gig in local/vfl footy but just simply innacurate today.

As for our big blokes, Spencer cannot mark it and even when he does get a free kick he is the single worst kick of the footy currently on an afl list.

Gawn has not been much better with his goal kicking.

thats the problem with gawn and spencer. They are to good for the vfl but get them in afl and they struggle. Grimes hsould be bought back in.

according to the commentators, grimes has been pretty lacklustre. simply hasn't been able to impose himself on the contest.

I wouldnt bring Grimes back in, average game today

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
