Agree nut. Unfortunately his foot injury is one of the most difficult injuries to diagnose and manage. it will be very difficult to return to the top level for any sustained period of time given the amount of sustained running and variation of pace now required at the top level, i suspect that he will be walking a tightrope. my guess is that these injuries will become more common as time goes on. I hope I am wrong but I have a bad feeling about this one.

It took me a little while to work that one out I must need some lunch

He's had a busted foot for (probably) 3 years ... before that he hadn't played enough football to be able to make an accurate appraisal of his form and his future. He did however, show us some glimpses that he could be a fine player.

It's like judging Toumpas now - way too early. Early last year it had looked like he'd overcome his debilitating injury but alas, we now know he had another major setback ... the post below sums up that game against Richmond very well - he was 'everywhere' and in my opinion was easily best on ground. I really hope he gets back so he can show us what he can do.

If he gets his foot / body right again is really the question at this stage. He has a great skill set - good tackler, great overhead mark, good kick, excellent endurance, leadership and footy smarts. Is it that easy to forget?

If he regains some speed then, to me, he's well above at least Michie, McKenzie, Newton, Riley and Bail, not to mention the new draftees. Possibly also Cross and Toumpas.. At the end of the day it just comes down to the foot.. if he's body's right and allows him to return to his form from the 1st couple of seasons then he's a walk up start in my opinion. If it doesn't then that would be very unfortunate and we mightn't see much more of him.

Every year the last 5 or so spots are probably heavily debate in terms of offering contracts or going for extra draft picks (and delisted free agent pick ups etc). Going in to next year I still believe the choice between an extra late round draft pick or an extra rookie pick and Trengove will still be in favour of Trengove. He's shown he can mix it at AFL level which even if he has issues to work out in his game. That's already more than the average pick up.

So there's not really a competitive disadvantage being one short.

When you see someone like Tom Lonergan recover and become a star or Robbie Grey get over a consistent run of injuries to be the MVP you can see the benefits of patience.

He has played some sensational games for melbourne. Early on he was playing miles above his lack of experience. If he gets back to 100% he is def top 18. Just depends what percentage he gets to

You didn't mention that apparently the deal was pick no 12 for pick 23 and Trengove.

You don't think that that what was on offer for Trengove may have had something to do with him touted as being up for trade at the Tigers ?

If, as suggested, pick 12 was part of a bigger deal to get a marquis player to our club you can understand why they would have moved in on ?

Disagree with this - the offer from the tigers was a Brock McLean type of offer that couldn't be refused IMO - especially if the suggestion is true that we trying to use pick 12 coupled with pick 2 or 3 to land a marquis player.

I think the club knows his abilities when he is fit and have very little to lose by letting his injury and recovery play out this season.

As most have said - whether he can get back or not is the million dollar question.

I'll let medical professionals smarter than me work that one out.

In my completely unmedical opinion, I can't help but feel that he pushed too hard last time in trying to force through his medical for the Tiges. The reports I was reading were that his times were impressive, right up until the point his foot caved in again. I acknowledge that may be off the mark, it's just a gut feel.

I don't think all hope is lost just yet, and I'm sure lessons have been learned along the way on the best means to manage his recovery. I've got everything crossed for the kid. Will be one of the great footballing stories imo if he can come back. Hopefully it is in our colours.

Yes they would have.

That is the point. They see value in a fit Trengove.

To my mind we saw more value in giving up Trengove and pick 2 or 3 for perhaps Dangerfield ?

Once the deal fell over - we could have done exactly as some here suggested - delist and rookie him - but that meant another club could possibly draft him.

If the clubs thinking was he was a bust - as much as we don't sometimes like hard calls - I would think they would have gone with - Jack has played 2 games last year. He played the previous two years where his pace and kicking deserted him - his foot didn't allow him to do the things he wanted to . He has been diagnosed with a navicular injury. He was in a moon boot for most of last season and now it has recurred an he will miss the better part of this season. It is our medicals team opinion that he won't be able to perform at the highest level possible - so with regret we are delisting him.

If I was trying to decipher the clubs thinking on Trengove it would be - A fit Trengove is probably best 22. His foot may or not may not recover - we have a year to find out - we can afford to roll the dice. At the end of this year we may have a good player back for 2016 or we he will be retired.

My thoughts are its not essentially costing the club monetarily to retain him for 2015 even if taking up a spot. 2016 however is an entiirely different thing and if his foot cant take the rigorous workload of AFL he simply will be retired.

Agreed with the addition that if the medical staff thought he was no chance at all to play again they would have paid him out and delisted him and freed up a spot.

Of course he would start if fully fit.

Would probably play on the ball along with Jones and Tyson as our best midfielders.

Sadly, I would be very surprised if we see JT back to his potential best.
