Overrated players we must not entertain during trade week

wouldn't go near vickery. would happily bring in martin, rance, riewoldt, or deledio from the tiges, but that's about it. their depth is akin to ours in 06/07 - non-existent.

Luke Breust - Fair dinkum, he never holds his feet in a contest. Throws his head back constantly. In an average side, this guy would be shown up big time. A+ grade set shot, but that is it. Has thrived on getting the 3rd or 4th best defender for years; and also thrived on quick perfect delivery.

Mitch Duncan - I hope we don't get him for Clark. Might as well let Clark go in the draft.

Luke Bruest is a poor mans Chris Mayne who I rate as a Z Grade soft player!

Just Imagine

FF: Garlett  Riewoldt  Weiderman
HF: Kent     Hogan     Watts

That would be a forwardline to fear. Mobile talls to stretch any defence and 2 smalls with genuine speed. Watts is capable of playing as a Vanders-like medium forward rather than a genuine tall. Hullet, Vanders and Pedo as depth.

Trac/Kent rotating off the back of the square

It's nice to dream

To be honest, Red, I don't think I would.  That said, I could be letting my opinion/thoughts of Vickery cloud my judgement.

When I typed that original post I was actually thinking of that exact trade.  Problem with him, I reckon Richmond would want more than what he is worth, so don't know if a Grimes/Ty trade would get done (they would want more).

Vickery is a free agent, so we wouldn't have to deal with richmond, we can just sign him.

The issue is though that he's bog ordinary and I'd rather we re-draft Newton then go near Vickery.

I hear that Rance guy goes alright. But after him and maybe Riewoldt I think you're right

Wouldn't touch Riewoldt, he would be a culture killer, and he's a genuine first class phlog to go with it.

The jury is out for me with Rance.  Yes, he's a very good player, but is he as good as what we get told?  I'd prefer to have Frawley back.  Just my view.

Riewoldt a fair argument possibly but he is undoubtedly passionate about his football... not sure that kills culture.  Rance does alot on his own. Beats anyone who he comes up against. If he wasnt the lone man in defence he would be even better. They would never trade them anyway was just saying they are ones I'd like in.

I know an insider at Richmond and Riewoldt is absolutely loved by all that club  - not a culture killer at all - I would suggest that he has certainly improved his onfield demeanor over the past 2 seasons.

Dustin Martin on the other hand...

Actually, I think he is a free agent as is Grimes.

Besides that, we need a Vickery type, more than we need a Grimes type. While Ty is no star, he can backup ruck and forward and is about 3-4 years younger than Pedersen.

As Stuie said above, we need depth and he would be that at the least, in an area we need it.

That is a joke right? By far the best key back in the AFL.

As I said, I would take Frawley over Rance.  Doesn't mean I'm more right than you, nor you more than me.  That's the joys of an opinion.

Except Jesse in what was his first, or certainly one of his first games.  Monstered him in fact. Bruce was almost in tears - sad ones unlike mine.

But, back on topic, Rance would be welcome I suspect were the price right.

Both are RFA.

We don't want to offer a big contract to have him as depth.  But any low offer would decrease Richmond's compensation, so they would be likely to match it.

They will want something reasonable in return, and I don't think we should be willing to pay for that.

We will let Grimes walk for a bag of lollies as compensation because we know he's not AFL standard.

Any bloke that can't give an extra 5 minutes of their time, after a handsomely paid gig, to sign a couple of extra autographs is not the type of bloke that I would want at our club.  That's why I'm glad Gawn has changed his ways/habits...

I have heard the exact opposite of what he does outside club hours ( Riewoldt) - he is ultra generous with his time. Not sure about the "extra 5 minutes" event you are talking about but maybe an aberration.

Anyways - he is never likely to be put on the trade table so not all that fussed about him. As an observation  - nearly all the culture killers in most organisations are gone  - or probably more accurate  - we don't hear about them. The boys will be boys, going out and getting hammered, getting into fights both in and out of the club are becoming less and less commonplace. (having said that Clark caused mischief at Geelong and hasnt played since and Boyd did cause some mischief at the dogs)

In the words of Harry Hoo from Get Smart, "Amazing".

Vickery cannot play in the ruck.

He's a stay at home forward who will - on a good day - take 7-10 marks, have 8-15 possessions, and kick 2-5 goals.

Unfortunately he has roughly two good days a year, and otherwise gives you 2 marks, 6 possessions, 0 tackles, 0 one-percenters and 2 behinds.

Avoid, avoid, avoid!

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
