2014 Player Review - # 14 Lynden Dunn

His ninth AFL season was his finest, as he became one of the top defenders in the competition. Dunn was a highly consistent performer across 2014 and he was duly rewarded with his best result in a Melbourne best and fairest count.

Took a massive step for this year Dunn. Probably slowed off bit towards the end but he was fantastic this year.

Another Roos special.

Agree - fell away towards the end, but was consistently outstanding before that. The polling in the B&F agreed.

I've never had such a complete and thorough reversal of opinion of a player in all my life supporting this team. Let's hope he's able to continue - in my mind he's gone from one of the worst players ever to play 100 games for the MFC to setting on the path to be a well respected 200 game player. Well done Dunny.

Really liked the way he went about it this year, hopefully he gets better next year!

Have always been a fan since he tore Hawthorn a new one as a forward in 06.

Very happy to see him settled into a key position role. Touch wood, but he seems durable and dependable. Never going to be a star, but just an honest goer.

Was very good this year. Hopefully he can maintain his focus and consistency going forward, because there has been a tendency for him to get a little ahead of himself in the past.

Stop living in the past.

Well Dunn

Signed contract, fell away. Melbourne story in miniature.

Nah, just joking. I was surprised and very happy to eat humble pie over this fella. I had him as a list clogger that was only doing enough to hold his spot because others needed culling first, but he looks like a real and substantial AFL player for the first time ever.

Credit to him for doing the hard work, and to those that knew how to show him the way.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
