2014 Player Review - # 5 Jimmy Toumpas

Featured Replies

Maybe us as supporter should stop looking for the savior of this club.

Let these young lads develop there game first before we put the jury out on them.

I believe in Jimmy and think he will become a good player.

I'm convinced there's a majority of supporters who would prefer 100 games of sub-par footy from James Magner to going through 30 games of development for a kid with real skills and lots of upside.

I was happy to hear this. I remember some passages of play in his first year where he was one of the only players who was composed when delivering into our forward 50, and on multiple times he was hitting our leading forwards on the chest.

He has the skill, it seems like he just needs a solid preseason, and to get some confidence in his body again.

Does anybody remember that small passage of play down the left wing where Jimmy collected the ball and chipped it over to Salem who I think delivered inside 50..? Anyway, it was along those lines and I giggled at the prospect of this happening many more times over the next 10 years.

When Roos has spoken of our 'good young players' in the past, including yesterday's presser, he spoke of the usuals: Tyson, Viney, Salem, JKH PLUS Toumpas...

Where this animosity has come from, for a 2ND YEAR PLAYER, is beyond me.

I agree with you, but to answer your question it is I believe because there was another player playing in a team with a mature midfield who came within a kick of reaching a GF this year, rather than battling injuray and a chronic lack of leadership at a struggling club.

And, of course, the huge benefits of hindsight.

Just toffer some balance perhaps. Wrt that "other player" ; it's always supposed he hes a product of some environment and that hes resultant and not the actual instigator od his success.

This other kid has always been good , and always had effect on teams he plays in. Youd be selling very short to suggest he's lucky and our one isn't. That other kid has helped thei success hes not a result of it.

Now lets see what ours can do. Page pretty blank just currently.

Glad he is off the trade table, clearly lacked strength and condition the past couple years.

Build him up strong, get some core and plyo work into him - and he'll have his chance.

I wouldn't trade Toumpas, it would have to be a top 5 in this draft.

He hasn't lost much value in my eyes, it was expected he'd take time- with his hip complaint pre-draft.

I won't fully reiterate my ongoing support for The Toump, do ill say simply this:
Forget the comparisons to Wines, that boat has sailed and will never return; give this 20 year old a full pre-season that is injury free and watch him grow and RUN to become this:

TSFKA.. I understand the sentiment.

When he has runs on the board hes off the hook.

So far.....

You vid ref only serves to reinforce hes all so called potential currently.

This bloke called "potential" has really lousy stats. I wouldn't highlight them too much is all im saying .

Posted in the 'Draft Combine' thread about a chat I had with Kevin Sheehan about the Toump yesterday.

Basically said, every team in the comp would have taken him where we did and most were shocked GWS didn't grab him.

Also said that some players however just hit there peak early while young and its completely impossible to pick this that they might hit the big league with no improvement left in them (first thought of mine was Scully).

But he believes that with his hips on the mend he will be a fine player sometime soon.

edit. Also, just cause I'm going to be a tool here, Brad Johnson just drools over Ollie Wines. Think's he's the best thing ever

If only you could speak English!

Great piece of play by Salem to bump Ebert off so Toump could keep going. Covet was coming so Toump popped it over the top to Salem.

I've posted his stats many a time on here, i refuse to anymore. If you look at them they are actually better than some of the elite of the game currently at the same age.

You can do your own research, i'm tired with this argument. Over to you Jimmy Toumpas...

stats stats stats ...SHlT Honestly all anyone does is come up with fn useless stats.

Some of us use our eyes and see what effect a player has during the game.

To date other than some cameo decent performances hes been wonderfully underwhelming . so much he struggles to get much happening at VFL level. Yes hes had some injury problems but they dont entirely excuse his somewhat lacklustre cv to date.

I hope hes as good as some make out otherwise its just another fukked up selection

Mate, he is 20 years old. A luck lustre CV to date? Christ, not even any of the Abletts were kicking goals in the womb. Wines is great, yes. But he is also a man child. Give Jimmy time, or at least let him grow some pubes first before judging him.

He might have struggled in the VFL this year, due to injury and a limited pre-season. But man he lit up the SANFL not even a few years back.

"Beelzebub"....... The new "Picket Fence"

LOL!!!! Just what we needed.

You can all wear your Ima Toumpa Apologist badges with pride.

I only care for a capable Melbourne. We ve had our fill of NQRs and Jimmy is right on that list currently and if you think otherwise youre delusional.

Yeah Trenners lit up the crappy SANFL too ( for the record its below VFL std these days ) He got going straight away until injured.

The Toump had some decent games late in that season he played senior SANFL and had a reasonably good Final..Done sfa since then. paint it anyway yo wish but realistic apparently.

When anyone talks of Dimitri is always about what "might" be. All potential...Even the club says the same shlt wrapped up in the words "HOPE he has a breakout season" They f'n hope ?????? Seriously ????

Hes either cherry ripe next year after a preseason or we are wasting a list space, money and a pick. Thats called reality.

I hope he comes good..Only because I want good players on our team not cloggers. I want Melbourne to win, not continue the misery.

I dont care wtf plays for us, but they better play and play well...or why have them. Its not a social convention for homeless nqr's.

They are after all getting paid a lot of money..Wheres the return. If he cant provide , get someone who can. Its really that simple.

The kid has done OK in his handful of tries.

He will be better next year.

Lets stop eating our young before they have had a real go at it .

After that ,slice away.

Biff..He HASNT done OK...hes doe very little. At least come at this with a modicum of reality .

I hope hes better next year. The club "HOPES" he will be . Its not about eating young its about picking footballers who then go out and play football. Not languish, not get injured half the bloody time .. And we KNEW his problems and still took him ??ffs Lets Join Carey and Daniels in the next epic adventure !!!

You take them on when theres NO bettter option.

Again. lets hope ( theres that word...seems permanently attached to this guy ) he steps up a bit. He needs to.

id have gladly traded him. Its about getting going NOW not in another 18months 2years time.

I see big things ahead. His body fully developed and a good strong pre season will lead to confidence and natural flair returning to his game. I honestly believe neeld ruined a lot of our playing lists confidence and attacking flair.

To trade jimmy now would be stupidity.

Thanks Beezelman, just what I needed, another fine analysis from someone else who knows what's going on!

Please continue!!

Wines is great, yes. But he is also a man child.

Isn't that exactly what we needed? And why so many supporters are shitty about it....

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
