He is not above criticism. He is a very good player on his day who gives his all but he was assigned a role yesterday and proved how big a gap there is between him and the elite. There is such a thing as trying too hard and trying to do too much and he showed that in spades yesterday.

I am not saying he has not had a good year but in a game where the coach stated we needed our mature players to show the way he was clearly found wanting.

Agreed. Jones is a good player, which is not in doubt.

However this thread is about how people played this week only. He had a job to do and was beaten easily.

That's not to say he isn't a good player, but he didn't deserve votes yesterday.

You made the comment that it "proved how big a gap there is between him and the elite", which is a general statement going beyond his game yesterday, and it's wrong. The gap isn't as great as you suggest, and he's proven that on numerous occasions.

Jones clearly suffered from the same condition as everyone else in the side yesterday - a lack of faith in his teammates. With due cause I would suggest. His decisions were found wanting, but I'm more than happy for him to take on the responsibility himself when more often than not it has worked for him.

Saying it's unthinkable that the man with the most touches and most tackles could get votes is crazy enough, but to call him "selfish" is criminally unfair on a player who gives his absolute all for this club, indeed has carried it on his shoulders for a long time, and nothing you can say will make me agree to it.

I'll add that I'll concede he didn't have a great game, but no-one did. Viney and Riley had a good game, and those two were the only ones truly deserving of votes. But when you have six players to choose out of a rabble, Jones gets a nod and I don't think that's outrageous.

That alone should exclude him from the votes. We don't need to agree but you can respect my opinion. I am not trashing his worth to the club or as a player but in my eyes his game yesterday was a major step backwards into the player I hoped he had become.

I respect your opinion and admit I may be sensitive to having the player who has kept me believing in the club for the past three years being labelled selfish, but I stand by my comments.

Viney's effective dispoal rate wa 50 % which in effectively 10 times it went to our advantage ( but you have to admire his endeavour for such a young bloke.

Actually Jermey Howe and Jack Grimes were our most effective disposals for us. Grimes @ 88% 17 disposals Jeremy 21 @ 82. Nathan J was also effective, but not in kicking to our Forwards advantage.

That is why we do not score so well.

I don't think Jonesy is selfish but Cross's loss hasn't helped him or the side and it showed yesterday and probably the past couple, so it unfortunate.

Cross has improved the midfield and his experience would have been handy yesterday especially around Selwood , but Selwood is no mug.

Anyone who says anything bad against Nathan Jones actually is an imbecile. The blokes been carrying this team for 4 years now, is the heart and soul of this club and a living legend.

If him, as our key midfielder, goes and gets his own footy whilst trying to stop Selwood too is being selfish, so be it. Let him do what he wants! He is our only elite player.

Dont want to go early on this but N.Jones is going to go down as one of the MFC's all time greats by the time he's done. Hes flown the flag through one of the most tumultuous times in the Clubs history.

Hes shown guts and determination when all around him were flying the white flag.

Cant see him retiring without at least 3 B&Fs.

Hes gone from a guy who couldnt kick and was a bit self focussed to one of recent memories inspiring Captains.

Its a pleasure to watch this career play out, regardless of the results around him.
