Remember to gamble responsibly.

That line always cracks me up. If you know the mathematical odds stacked against you, you would know you can never gamble 'responsibly'. You can only ever do it 'irresponsibly'. ^_^

As someone once said: 'The TAB is a predator and you are its mathematically-illiterate prey'.

The dees are getting a 5 goal start with the TAB.

Paying $1.90, sounds like a good bet to me!

Remember to gamble responsibly.

I'm on it! Same margin paying $2 on iasbet, which is where I choose to lose money!

Oh, and I should have read your last line before clicking!!

GO DEES!

I'm not a gambler, but I play small fry with an account. I put $50 in 6 years ago and I have taken out a humble $350 from the account over the years without putting another cent in. I have more than the original $50 in there now. I feel I need to say that because the second you defend odds and gambling, people just assume you are a gambler, which is clearly overly simplistic.

You are somewhat incorrect that there is only irresponsible gambling, and also in your statement that the odds are always stacked against you. For starters, with footy betting, your odds are not formed by the bookies, they are framed by the markets. Then, I grant you, the odds are "watered down" for the bookies' margin.

But there is no question that the market does sometimes deliver odds that are attractive. For example, if you know statistically that games are likely to be won by less in the wet, and the market hasn't taken that into account (or for example the market can respond late to a late withdrawal), then there are good odds to be had. Also, Collingwood is always shorter than they should be because more people put more money into them, so if you think North is a good shot against Collingwood, you're likely to be getting better odds than you ought (if you know what I mean!).

Footy betting is absolutely gambling, and over time more people lose. No doubt. But it's not the same as throwing your dosh into a pokie.

well it looked like a good bet but I didn't allow for the umpire factor.

The umps are down in the rooms rubbing themselves with $100 notes from the Bank of Eddie. They don't care.

Seriously though... if I was an umpire I would be ashamed of the decisions and non-decisions made today. We didn't help ourselves but wearing black and white stripes was a big advantage today.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
