Jack Watts 2014

Happy to have a new thread for Watts as well (I started a new Trengove thread recently).

It really does feel like a new beginning for the players from what they have said.

He just needs to work hard and keep running and it will come, he will rely on others to get him the ball that isn't necessarily a bad thing (especially now that we have some help for the Jones' to actually get the ball).

He can be a damaging outside midfielder.

his skills are fantastic and i think he will be a great marking option around the ground, he is going to beat most midfielders in the air, i agree 2014 is the year for Watts and Trenners to show us why we drafted them so high

If you speak to Jack, he is apart from being really happy at the thought of playing in the midfield, he is feeling as fit as he as ever been, after the practice game I told him he didn't look that tired, said he felt like he could run all day and most "importantly" he so much wants to finally sitck it up all the detractors

Roos also has at his disposal

Cross who wants to prove the Bulldogs wrong

Vince who wants to prove the Crows wrong

Tyson who wants to show why he was a number 3 pick

and Trengove who wants to shut up all the detractors

Competition for all spots

A nice simple game plan

Amd every players buying into it

Roos will be relishing the next two weeks, against 2 teams who don't believe they are practice games, it will give him a clearer picture of who will be ready and deserves to be in the team Round 1

Saty, you're obviously fairly involved with the club, and see alot of this sort of thing first hand, do you think things are probably panning out better than anyone including Roos expected? he seems to have worked wonders in not very long

As you can see from the Roos mic'd up, he keeps things faily simple.

The general vibe after the Richmond game from all the players, was that what he was showing them worked, they understand that he will give them a role and as long as they give their everything and play the role exactly as described by Roos they will continue to play in the team

They all know it is still pre season, and there is still a lot of work to do, but they know for a fact they are heading in the right direction....... players like Spencer, Bail, Watts, Trengove are all playing with a new confidence, led by Cross (the steadying influence), Grimes (leadership), Vince (a class act) and Nathan Jones (leading by example)

An example of the coaching, Spencer was mortified by that silly kick in error that gave the ball straight to Vickery, but the coaching was a. relax and if in doubt belt it down the wing, or b. there should have been somebody on your shoulder to take the ball away, you had done the hard work to take a good defensive mark

Watts and Tyson, again from mic'd up, have been told to use their natural ability, don't doubt yourself

I am looking forward to watching Jack Watts tonight in a 'real' game, I think we will finally see what we and him have been waitng 5 years for

Thanks saty, i really feel like signing Dom and re-signing Wattsy will prove huge for the club in the next few years

One thing that I think most of us tend to overlook is the fact that Watts is only 22 (will turn 23 on March 26 - I only know this because that's also my birthday)... he is really only just reaching an age where you would expect him to be maturing as a footballer... Nate Jones really only started to fire up when he hit 23 or 24, so I think we should probably be starting to get excited about what we might see from Watts this year and beyond.

I can see Watts running hard on the wings, up and down the ground, providing that marking option as a link man from the defensive 50 and initiating a lot of the F50 entries.

He might not be winning a lot of the footy skirting packs at stoppages, but he'll still get a lot of it if he consistently works hard to present.

like that someone understands that he is still only a kid will develope into a great player jones was the same .Watched G Hardeman start on the wing for us then went forward and played flank and full forward then became the best chb we ever had, also saw a kid called flower only 16 ,champ, debut on the other wing was another S Fitzimons, wrong spelling ,but you get my drift he was 17 i thinkplayed lots of games for us then went intersate .Watts will be the best chb we have ever had .Saw my first grand final in 1958 beat by the crap, the next few years were perfect

Hey Barney Which year is he going to show it?

yeah only 5 years in the system

yeah only 5 years in the system

So what? Jones took as long and had the same lame calls for his delisting, trading etc that we constantly see directed at Watts. Can you honestly say that 5 years in the system with the standard of coaching we have had is a fail for Watts?

I reckon we may see Watts' best on a wing pressing back when needed. He's not a CHB and does not have the tricks or presence to play high forward (for what it's worth). The best thing is that he will thrive now that he's not the second coming.

Come on Song; we may as well shut up shop if we can't analyze Jack another 200 times.

Oh a new Jack Watts thread, let's see what people are talking about...

Hey Barney Which year is he going to show it?

No matter how many times history repeats itself, some just never learn...

An okay read. Gives some more insight into Watts state of mind last year and his poor relationship with Neeld.

Very confident that Roos can get the best out of Jack and this year will prove his best yet by a long way.
