2014 Jumper Numbers [final]

Can't wait to see the number 12 running around again and actually making a difference to the game.

Grimes' number is a cast-iron guarantee that he'll be either captain or co-captain.

No. Grimes' number was his number last year in one of the great Schwab-ism moves and it's unlikely he was going to move back. Has no real bearing on whether he stays captain although I think it's highly likely.

Hope JKH does well, I like my jumper with the 24 on it

Another hairy no 3.. good to see.

he didn't look to hirsute to me with his top off at training

certainly no gaddy lyon

Might be a petty thing, and I know no-one else really deserves them, but I don't really like giving such low 'good' numbers to first year players.
If you have a look at other teams, and the only one I can see who has announced jumpers is Richmond, but Ben Lennon takes 35. It might be a mental thing, but even Collingwood's concept of first draft pick getting 35 I like.
Toumpas last year 5, Scully 31, Trengove 9, Watts 4, Salem 3, Morton 10, Frawley went straight to 8, and Sylvia, McLean were 5 and 12 from the get go if I'm not mistaken.

I'd love to see them earn the jumper number. Chuck Salem, JKH and Hunt in 34, 36 and 49 and tell them if by 2015 they're deserving best 22 players they can have their pick of numbers.

Maybe I'm too depressed with how rubbish we've been, but this bloke's had a Garry Lyon article written after 2 weeks.

If we only gave the lower numbers to players that deserved them....We would have players wearing numbers in the 100's now

I think you'll find plenty who'll disagree with you and argue instead that a player should be given one number and keep it for their whole MFC career. That number then gets linked inextricably with the player for all time...hopefully bringing us all great memories.

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
