Juice was on our list to replace Neitz as a KPP . It failed for 2 reasons. Neitz retired early and Newton could never play at Sandy at FF. Sautner played FF . Newton never developed as FF . How he stayed on our list till end of 2011 is beyond me

Whilst the Sandy situation didn't work I think you missed the biggest problem. Poor Juice was never that good. Could take a hanger but couldn't hold enough simple marks and was slow when the ball was on the deck. Poor set shot at AFL level. Not at all physical.

He was a tease. Worth several years development because until you get the body and the games under the belt you can't judge a tall with talent and you dont want to do a Jay Schulz at Richmond style job on a guy who's about to find his form. But overall just couldn't close the gap between state league and AFL.

Whilst I don't think the Sauntner business helped him, or any other potential KPF Melbourne wannabe develop for that matter, I saw him up close quite a bit when we were aligned with Sandy as one can watching and listening VFL from beside the interchange bench, and he seriously lacked any "desire for the contest", some would say "heart" so never realized anything near his potential.

I find it incredible that posters are prepared to hoot and jeer at Newton, without seeing what he has been doing at Norwood. Dunn has been mentioned often enough. What about Jetta? At other clubs there are many who were pretty useless in their first 5 years at AFL level.

If Newton has bulked up and is kicking 50 plus goals per season at CHF, and if he was mad enough to accept a rookie, or late draft, pick, why not? As Podziadly has shown, 27 is hardly too old.

A really disturbing aspect of our list is the complete absence of any key position players other than those who are playing. He would have been bloody handy this year

clark season . hogan season and Dawes in the first 6 weeks would have made a difference.

And so on the cusp of a SANFL Grand Final and with every club sending at least a recruiting staff member the eyes will be on several other Norwood player such as Sam Baulderstone, Matthew Panos Simon Philips, Liam Davis and of course "Juice" A good performance in the granny would sure put some serious thought into recruiting him. Hnmm interesting times.

Career Stats of note.

Huge hanger followed by shot for goal going out of bounds.

Juice 1

Me 1*

*not in AFL.

For a moment there, I thought you said either "bender" or "hangover" ...

This thread is embarrassing.

What if...........?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
