The 3rd and final part of our players that I consider borderline or most likely to be cut at season end.

Daniel Nicholson Contracted end of 2013

Age 22 183 Ht 76 Kgs

Career = 31 Games 4 Gls 10 Bhs

2013 = 10 Games 3 Gls 1 Bhs

Best Season 2012

Pros: Has good pace and willing to take the game on. When on his game he can create space and be the link man.

Cons: Sloppy disposal leading to turnovers. Lets himself down with undisplined disposals.

Outlook:

Could go down as another that didnt make the most of his aliblities. Has what it takes, his disposal leaves much to be desired.

If he cant improve this then his AFL time is going to be limited. There is not much better than watching a player use his pace to break away and hit a target up forward. Nicho does this,except the target up the ground more often than not, is the opposition. He is one of the best trainers on the track. he needs to work hard on his ball use. We wear the Red & Blue jumpers Nicho!

Borderline to survive.

David Rodan Contracted end of 2013

Age 29 173 Ht 87 Kgs

Career = 185 Games 131 Gls 73 Bhs

2013 = 10 Games 3 Gls 1 Bhs

Best Season: 2007 Disposals 401 28 Gls 11 Bhs (Port Adelaide)

Pros: Brings experience and leadeship into the club. Good clubman and role model.

Cons: Now at his 3rd club. A bandaide fix for our lack of experienced players on the list.

Outlook:

Brought in to make up for a shortfall of depth and experience. has played a role in guiding and showing the way for his less experienced team mates. How long he remains is in question. Rodan only showed in patches what he can do on game day. This is probably nothing more than a draftee would do in his 1st year. But he is tough and knows the ropes. I cant see another year contract on offer.

* Updated his lastest knee injury may have sealed his fate.

James Sellar Contracted end of 2013

Age 24 196 Ht 98 Kgs

Career = 43 Games 13 Gls 9 Bhs

2013 = 10 Games 3 Gls 1 Bhs

Best Season: 2012 168 Disposals

Pros: Can play a role forward or back,also pinch hit in the ruck.

Cons: Hasnt done enough to suggest he can cement a spot. 6 yrs on a AFL list and played 43 games.

Outlook:

At this stage only a depth player. a handy player to fill a role. During the 2013 pre season games he looked like he was about to have a breakout year, since then has struggled with fitness and failed to make much of an impression. Spots on the list have to be made available to make way for drafting mids. Sellar could be one of those to make way. Might be saved, but I cant see it.

A rookie spot might be an option.

Rory Taggert Contracted end of 2013

Age 20 188 Ht 85 Kgs

Career = Games 0 Gls 0 Bhs

2013 = 0 Games

Best Season: N/A

Pros: Rory has a good build for a tall midfielder.

Cons: Unproven at AFL

Outlook:

Played a couple of ripping games for Casey in 2013,had most of us demanding a callup for a debut at AFl level, It is all well and good to let young AFL wannabes get game time developing their wares in the VFL. At some stage its not a bad idea to see what they can do in the bigtime. Then drop then back to work/improve on their game. So far his luck hasnt gone his way. Has a good built to be used as a tallish Mid. I would prefer to keep for another year, but not my call.

Luke Tapscott Contracted end of 2014

Age 22 180 Ht 87 Kgs

Career = 44 Games 11 Gls 11 Bhs

Best Season: 2011 188 Disposals 15 Games

2013 = 15 Games 7 Gls 6 Bhs

Pros: Can play a role forward or in the backline. At times been tried in the midfield

Cons: Another player that has failed to come on. Lacks pace and endurance. Therefore needs hard work in the pre season.

Outlook:

Luke is another that when you looks at him, he is built like a brick outhouse. He is fearless, this factor has cost him game time at various stages He puts his body on the line.He has qualities that are lacking from most on our list, that is, he is more than capable of really hurting opponents just through his attack at the ball and to hit body to body. A number of times the opponent has got up knowing he has been hit. Lukes problem is that through a lack of ball coming into the forward line has limited his chances to impress. He was thrown in the backline, and started to gain confidence then got suspended and then injured, since then hasnt done enough to convince anyone he has enough to warrant a place on the list. A powerful kick, takes a good mark, and knows where the goals are. With better quality ball coming into the forward line, he is capable of causing problems for opposition defenders. I am not sure if we can afford to hold onto him for another season or 2. We need Mids, he doesnt atm have the endurance or speed to make me think he can be a mid. Worth another year, but wont be surprised if he was cut from the list after that if he doesnt do more to inspire. Would like to see him have a run in the midfield.

Outlook:

Has played some good games for Casey, at times looked on the verge of getting another callup for the seniors. Hasnt set the world on fire,but looking at it another way, he is still just 19 almost 20yrs old. If someone in the football Dept, work out how to develop teenagers into AFL footballers.it would be handy.I am not convinced he has what it takes to crack it into the bigtime. Some need more than a few years to develop, Josh might be one to drop back to the rookie list. Borderline at this stage.

ROOKIES:

Tom Couch

Age 25 177 Ht 79 Kgs

Career = 3 Games 0 Gls 0 Bhs

Best Season: 2012 33 Disposals 3 Games

2013 = 0 Games 0 Gls 0 Bhs

Pros: Knows where to go to get the football, can dominate at VFL level.

Cons: Lacks a bit of pace,and another NQR to make it at AFL

Outlook:

Another that is too good for VFL but not enough pace for AFL. Cant fault his desire and I would put him in with Velenti as a player that will dominate at VFL, but cant take the next step to be a permanent fixture in the seniors. Cant see him getting a renewal. Magner is ahead of him, and he cant get a game. At 26 next year,having to fail to do enough this year, he will be cut.

James Magner

Age 25 178 Ht 82 Kgs

Career = 19 Games 4 Gls 6 Bhs

Best Season: 2012 240 Disposals 17 Games

2013 = 2 Games 0 Gls 1 Bhs

Pros: Determined and wants to succeed. Could be a ball magnet

Cons: Lacks pace, both with hand and leg speed to standout from many others.

Outlook:

Started out in a blaze of glory. Playing with lack of quality around him, he still was able to have some thinking he was going to be a permanent mid. Then someone in their wisdom, decided to turn him into a tagger, he lost confidence,and the toll of his 1st season caught up with his body. Since thenhas been dominating in the VFL, but still couldnt get a gig in the 1sts. Been left stranded on the rookie list, through no fault on his own.Turning 26 next year, might look back and think he was robbed,but he gave it his best shot. Chances left are slim.

Footnote: Coach

Neeld came in all guns blazing,and at first glance seemed to be the coach that was going to sort out the list. In hindsight had nothing left after firing all his bullets. Mismanaged players,got some offside and will be seen as failed to bring in the right experienced players to fill gaps.He failed to inspire me and the players it seems. Although not all his own doing, he did what he thought was best at the time.

Now we look forward to another cleanout, a re-build and hopefully some quality mids. Whoever coaches in 2014 has a bit of hard work ahead.

So bad how our website hasn't updated some of the player heights and weights, I know for a fact Tynan is more then 76kgs, was 83 when I asked him if he had put anything on, and that was mid-year. Great review by the way, very fair, unbias and detailed
