Not if we manage to lure some good on ball talent, if we dont however then i agree with you.

I actually think we will be on the improve. My sports psychiatrist just suggested to me that if I take small steps I won't be back in the fetal position pre April, nappy on and dummy in mouth.

Hogan is the next Carey!! And in not talking about Peter!

Love your guitar work PH but really this is Melbourne, the chances of Hogan being what we would all hope he could be is a million to one. But yes let's hope.

If dont get at least three or four top quality mids, we will have another pathetic year.

Get prepared then.

So you're saying we're a chance! Yes!

A Chance, yes but as always if we are getting only 30 odd inside fifties and most of those are up and under floaters from the wing I don't think even Wayne Carey would have an impact. But we live in hope of drafting some mids and maybe even a mid field coach who has our group working together intelligently. Big ask I know.

we had better go out and get 2 legit gun young midfielders in the draft-trade period

David Swallow an Taylor Adams would be just fine

Pay overs if we have to, i dont care anymore just give us a legit midfield

We'd get a lot more inside 50's with a second target besides Dawes who can actually present on the lead as well as another forward who can effectively apply forward pressure. Sure the midfield is rubbish but the forward create a lot of problems for themselves!

Oh believe me, the days of any sort of optimism in regards to Melbourne are well and truly over.

Only when i see something happening with my own eyes will i believe.

Honestly Hood, with all jokes aside I would hope that we could have 6 wins and aim to decrease our losing margin against the sides we lost to this year.

RTG I agree if we get some help from the AFL Commission and get a priority pick which may be number 3 to go with our number 2 or it may be mid or late first rounder and we trade out a player for a second rounder that would give us four shots at some mid field talent. This could set us up for 6 to 8 wins.

I think our chances of luring a free agent or two of any talent are very limited. Who would want to come to us really? That is what will slow our development down. In the meantime the top clubs will continue to pick the eyes out of the free agent talent pool to fill roles neded for their premiership tilts. In this way we and the other battling Victorian clubs will always be playing catchup. The AFl needs to start thinking seriously about equalisation policies.

David Swallow is someone we should seriously go after in my opinion. He is the bull and freak that Melbourne need. It's almost as if he hasnt fitted in their midfield with O'meara, Martin, Ablett and Prestia.

Taylor Adams seems like he wants to leave, so we should try to snap him up

IMO i'd be happy if we could snare just one of them, realistically

No problems at all chasing Dom Tyson and Taylor Adams but surely we can do it via a good package for Taylor and use our priority pick (if it materialises) for Dom. The idea that we have [or want to] offload Watts is a very short-sighted view. If he is worth something substantial as a trade then surely he is worth even more to keep within our structure.

I would be happy if I turned up to the football and saw a game that wasn't all over by three quarter time.

Three Quarter Time ??? Try half time..

I believe the AFL is set to announce the 2014 fixture at a press conference today with Essendon drawn to play a mid afternoon game on a Wednesday at Port Moresby. We're the likely opponent.

Would that do?

As Long as we can book and go by boat... Just saying.. lol

would you be happy that instead of chasing Daisy Thomas (which would be a long shot) to pay overs for Dom Tyson and try to lure Taylor Adams

I'd B very 'appy, if we went after Taylor Adams & Hurry TFU about it, before the Tigers Nab him in a deal...

... also, lets Go fishing big time, to land a goodUn with a Gaff... a lively runner if ever I saw 1...

Gaff would be an amazing inclusion to the club.

Gaff, Adams, Swallow and Tyson... wow, what a club we'd be building.

But realistically if we get 2 i'd do backflips

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
