If someone said to you after round 11 2013:

*after another Queens Birthday flogging,
*we’re 1-10 with a percentage of about 25
*Mark Neeld just sacked

That we’d win a flag in 8 years, but in Perth where the majority of Melbourne people aren’t allowed to attend the game, then you’d have that person immediately institutionalised.

And that person would forever remain institutionalised had they said to you (in 2015) “we’ll play Essendon in Adelaide before we next play the Eagles at the ‘G”

Hmmmm ... based on my 'optimism' in 2013/14 I could have been a candidate for that 'institution'.

It is 2013, Jimmy is very ill, we have no FOJ sponsor so the club puts the Reach logo on.  Our BOJ sponsor (Energy Watch) went bust.  I bought a jersey as a donation and put number 11 on back.

It is 2014.  I take the jersey to the 1964 Premiership team reunion at the Bentleigh club and had all those champs from yesteryear sign it.  LOL, my idle musing was to have the next Dees premiership players sign to have the premiership 'bookends.

Friends laughed and thought that went beyond the eternal optimism of a tragic demon supporter to one that had taken leave of her senses.

It is 2021 and we win the Premiership 🏆❤️💙.  I had great joy telling those friends my 'senses' were fine!

So while it may have seemed 'deranged' in 2013/2014, 2021 proved otherwise.

To round off the story.

It is 2022.  I emailed Gary Pert with the above story and asked if I could pass the never worn with tags, jersey, to Richardson to obtain the Premiership players autographs.  (Fans weren't allowed to training).   Then I would frame it, hold it for a few years and donate it to the club.  Thought it would be a special piece of memorabilia of our history of highs and lows.

Sadly, he never even acknowledged the email.😢  Now the moment is lost as many of the players are elsewhere.  😢

I wish I could put both a double ‘Love’ and ‘Thumbs Down’ emoji beside your post Luci (for the obvious reasons), but unfortunately I can’t!

ps.  I hope that makes sense.

Yes, makes plenty of sense, thank you.  I get that you ❤️💙 my story and the  👎 is for Gary Pert for being such a ...

... he was never a demon anyway ... no sense of 'documenting' our history albeit on a jersey not in words.

Thanks for this story, Luci.

As I imagine you couldn't get all of the '64ers then, it wouldn't matter so much if you couldn't have got all the '21ers.

Why don't you try again? Via Brad, this time? He seems more attuned to that sort of emotional attachment and demonstration?

Yes, I think I got 12 of the '64 premiership as some had passed away or Couldn't get there.

Yes, it is worth trying again.  A couple of DL's who know the story have offered to help so I might contact them as well.

I was there, and with some anticipation in a bad mens season among a series of same! A mutedly pleasing outcome, too.

Certainly some names there, a number still playing, including Garner's captain last night.

That 2013 day produced further entertainment, of the heart-stopping variety, IIRC!

Deleted parentheses: looked like I was demeaning the women's game when I only meant them to say the men's game was NOT entertaining from the heart-stop point of view!!

Good luck to her, indeed.

A gold standard reup.

Drop the mic. Elephants and DL posters.

Where you been 45HG? Good to have you posting again.

Thanks mate.

I used to come here multiple times a day and then, all of a sudden, I just didn’t anymore. I’d like to say I was in prison, or something interesting.

I think, in truth, I’m addicted to the pain. And pain has returned.

I tried about three days after the premiership to log back in but couldn’t remember my details and decided we probably hadn’t won anything and it was all made up.

Then Garner got the medal and I felt compelled.

If someone had said that to me as we were leaving the QB game in 2923, I’d definitely have taken it. And laughed in his/her face

And kicked the first goal in the first ever AFLW game. Nice that it was a player who went on to great things rather than some random.

Needless to say, Garner is welcome back at the Dees any time!

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?
