Guest Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 You should thank the Liberal Party for the country you live in. Imagine if there were 4 year terms. It doesn't bare thinking about. I especially thank Robert Menzies, the founder of the Liberal Party. If it wasn't for all the time he spent in London during World War 2, we wouldn't have fought off the Japanese invasion. I'm getting ready to pack my bags and move back OS as soon as Tony Abbott becomes PM.
Guest Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 What an inane question. Almost as simplistic as your assertion that because Jeff is involved with beyondBlue that he isn't a tactless bully. He has a track record.

Return to Glory 8,518 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I've said some very insulting things about us. So what ? And it's safe to say we're wary of raving egotists on both counts.
Lordweaver 235 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 it's great that we are attracting successful men up for one of the great sporting challenges, certainly ego is involved but I don't care. good luck to anyone who can get the dees to rise again, Forget the political bs/bully and all the other [censored], let's see what he has got, could it be worse?
iv'a worn smith 1,979 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Just won't happen. We'll decide who comes to the come to this club and the circumstances in which they come. Spare me the born to rule mentality BH.

Return to Glory 8,518 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Yes it could Lordweaver. He could do a 'not even I can save them' routine and we're finished. There were several schools that he jettisoned into oblivion and whilst its not quite the same, he had no qualms about making some decisions that impacted upon the rank and file of the community badly IMO. Not at all sold on him and would be very surprised if it happened.
Lordweaver 235 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Sounds like you are speaking for everyone? Just won't happen. We'll decide who comes to the come to this club and the circumstances in which they come. Spare me the born to rule mentality BH.
Sir Why You Little 37,450 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Oh and for those who were too young to know of this legendary phone call, I give you the following: Kennett-Peacock Car Phone Conversation It always brings a smile to my face whenever Jeffrey's name bobs up in the media. Front Page of the Hun. Word for word. Classic. "Say goodnight to your good lady wife for me..."
Grapeviney 9,929 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 This has Jackson's and Demitriou's fingerprints all over it. The fact that this has arisen in this form now, indicates the powers that be at the AFL are really, really, really serious about resurrecting the MFC, and I must say that delights me. Given how regularly Kennett was at loggerheads with AFL HQ, I doubt this very much. It's a brain fart from a bloke who loves the sounds of his own voice, not a plan being cooked up by the league.
PaulRB 6,435 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 This thread explains exactly why a divisive figure like Jeff would be toxin for this club at this time. Would simply disenfranchise yet another segment of the MFC supporter base, further weakening us...
sue 9,277 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 You should thank the Liberal Party for the country you live in. Imagine if there were 4 year terms. It doesn't bare thinking about. Please keep your politics out of this. I expect many of the 'leftists' you see all about you would prefer Stockdale to Kennett even though Stockdale is more of a silvertail than Kennett. Why? Because he is a successful man who supports the Demons and hasn't called for our merger with North within the last 13 months. Kennett may be the dynamo to save us as some here argue, but I still say, why take the risk of trusting him. If there is any doubt, find someone else with the right skills, eg Stockdale perhaps, though I expect there are plenty out there we just don't know about. We didn't know the names of president's of many top sides before they took the job. So the MFC may have similar potential presidents in the wings.

Agreed that his agenda is still largely unknown, that's why we should at least see what he has on offer, he has said that Melbourne needs to stay(words to that effect)
What 18,810 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 if this turns into a political discussion i will go mental
PaulRB 6,435 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 if this turns into a political discussion i will go mental Mate, any conversation involving Jeff Kennet is political, his sole claim to fame is as a POLITICIAN... So go mental.
iv'a worn smith 1,979 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Sounds like you are speaking for everyone? Wouldn't be so presumptuous. Just my opinion. But a confident opinion just the same.
Hannibal 5,814 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Please keep your politics out of this. Firstly, I'll please myself. Secondly, I note you didn't make that suggestion to others. My comment was merely a response to political comments already posted. I always find hypocrisy amusing.
Barney Rubble 1,576 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I think Rangey needs to do a Poll. I just want to know how many D'Landers would actually vote for the king of all P**ks to become President. I am bewildered.
iv'a worn smith 1,979 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I'm guessing you were on John Howard's side of the Howard/Peacock feud then IWS? No CBF. Just trying to point out that rhetoric is empty at the best of times.
Tatu 416 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Jeff is an agent of change. Regardless of whether you like his politics or his football presidency, wherever he goes things change. Most of those changes bring improvement. He is brusque, has a passionate, loose tongue and is an autocrat. He steps on toes and honestly couldn't give a stuff for the people he hurts. He causes as many difficulties as he solves, just not in the areas he is responsible for. I have met him on a number of occasions at a professional level, and although he has almost no social conscience he is one of the sharpest, most alert individuals I have spoken with. We need a person exactly like Jeff. Will he bully people? Yes Will he draw in the best personnel? Yes Will he demand success? Yes He will NOT merger Melbourne. If he became president he would be 100% devoted and would do anything to improve the brand. He is selfish in this way. His professional reputation would be at stake and that is one thing he will not compromise. The only question mark is this: he does not barrack for Melbourne. Is it possible to be fully professional when he has a heart for the Hawks? I can't answer this yet. i don't think it matters that he supports the hawks..... Pretty sure most of our players did not support the dees.... I agree he would bring change and success..... Just not sure its the type of change we'd won't..... Success is great... It's what we need.... But would it mean the same if our name was the Darwin Demons or the Melbourne Red Kangaroos?
Maldonboy38 6,435 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I just don't understand the vitriol directed at "silvertails" and "private school boys". And before anyone gets on some preconceived hobby-horse, no I am not one of them. Who gives a rat's tossbag what a person's roots are? Can they do the job? Can he/she lead? Do they have business acumen? Can they cast vision and formulate strategy? Can they inspire a club to dream big and go for it? I don't care if they hail from Brighton Grammar or Hampton Park Secondary College - CAN THEY DO THE JOB???
sue 9,277 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 it's great that we are attracting successful men up for one of the great sporting challenges, certainly ego is involved but I don't care. good luck to anyone who can get the dees to rise again, Forget the political bs/bully and all the other [censored], let's see what he has got, could it be worse? Yes it could be worse. Let's say Kennett starts with all the right intentions, but discovers that he will not be able to pull off success within the time he has allotted for it. Isn't it possible that he may then declare the job was impossible, that even HE couldn't save us. A not unlikely scenario I fear. He'd then pull the plug on us and return to his earlier merger/relocate convictions. A man with his ego and a Hawks supporter may well take that line when a true Demons supporter facing a similar situation might continue to fight for us. The best odds are with a true supporter President (or even a neutral) who may not be quite as 'good' as some see Kennett, but less of a risk in the long run.
PaulRB 6,435 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Maldon, with Jeff it isn't about which school he came from... it's political and thus more about which schools he closed as Premier, and his self aggrandising bullying style of management and him generally having a history of being a [censored].
Guest Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 To be honest with you IWS, I'm not sure about Stockdale either. He was one of the blokes carrying on like a quince during the Gutnick era. I remember he wrote a two page piece in the Hun where he whinged about Joe supposedly calling him an anti-semite and sulking because Joe had supposedly cast aspersions on his marriage. I thought 'FMD! How have you survived this long in politics if this is all it takes to get this kind of reaction?' Plus I think we need to start moving away from the image of us being a club of rich eastern suburban private school boys. We need to get a better mix of people in to the club. Jimmy tried to do this but we are now back to the elites running the shop.
