Melbourne "great" Gerard Healy says coach Mark Neeld has two weeks to save his job

Featured Replies

Like a knee-jerk reaction to sack the coach halfway through his tenure because we are getting beaten by the good sides?

hahaha

we lost to Gold COast by 10 goals for christs sake

and its not that we are getting beaten, its that we are non competitive

Neeld is gone, and rightly so. Deal with it

Not a fan of Gerard.

Always seems to put Swans ahead of Dees.

The Tanking saga with Mclean began on Healys show.

He is not being helpful to the Melbourne football club, but rather mischievous.

Do you find it interesting that Paul Roos says "that I'm hearing Jack Watts is definitely going", I hope he has been considering the coaching position and he has been informed with that. Of course I don't hope for Watts to leave.

Heffernan was useless. Moorcroft wasn't much better. Essendon should have won more premierships with the team they had. If Neeld says "it is what it is" again he should be sacked and tarred and feathered.

Another 2 wks will feel like 2 yrs.

Why wait get rid of him.

We aint got nothin to lose.

Healy was a melbourne great.

He was a turncoat of the highest order and is a [censored] to boot.

Won the B& F at the Dees in 1985 I think. Doesn't make him a great.

Left and won 3 B&Fs at the Swans and a Brownlow.

Imagine how we would have performed in 1987/88 with Healy?? I am still dirty on him. And he has taken every opportunity to pot us since.....

Guys like Malthouse would never come to Melbourne and risk losing their coaching 'profile'. They seek out clubs with good lists and stacks of money and then bask in the reflection of their elite coaching skills. Think Ross Lyon.

This is right on the money.

Melbourne needs to make a pitch about a fantastic opportunity this presents for a proven AFL coach. No proven coach would take on the job without demanding certain things from the club. A rookie coach would just jump at it as they have been waiting for an opportunity like this.

Think about it these so called coaches in the mix would hear story after story about Melbourne. I am not talking just about the media but within the walls of other football clubs. Even if a proven coach takes the job the list is so pathetic and will take time to rebuild thanks to Neeld and co for [censored] it up.

Under Bailey they were on the right track and maybe it was a knee jerk reaction to sack him. At the time it was possible to believe that Melbourne could push for a spot in the 8 the following season. Since Neeld has taken over everything has hit the fan big time.

Your point about Malthouse is spot on and Melbourne cannot afford another unproven coach.

Is that the same Gerard Healey who left MFC for big bucks at $ydney?

So, we are expected to sit up and take notice of what he says?If he or anyone is putting Neeld "on probation" for games vs Hawthorn and EddieCollingwood then they have clearly prejudged the matter.

need's record is not good but to judge him in the next 2 games is crazy, we won't win, will be outclassed, either give him till the next 5 rounds or ditch him now

How does a team that is 'on the right track' lose by 186 points?

He is not being judged on the next two games. Its the last 32 he is being judged on and unless something miraculous happens then he is gone .....surely.

This is not just a team playing badly. You couldn't even call it a team. Its a bunch of young guys that have been left devoid of confidence, natural skills and heart. There is no effort. Week in week out we do not run, chase tackle, harass cover our man. Not elite skills required but commitment and effort, It has been sadly missing and the failure to take action could have bigger consequences for the future of the club and key players.

It's one game and typical Melbourne couldn't help it self. My team Essendon got smashed by over 150 pts against Hawthorn at VFL Park in 91 or 92 and we didn't sack Sheedy. For memory we won our next game and a Preimership in 1993. Strong clubs don't panic and bend over to the media , sometimes [censored] happens and you have bad day. Don't get me wrong Richmond and St.Kilda have a history of doing it as well.

I think if we look back with the wsidom of hindsight, it was very much the wrong move wasnt it. But it wasnt just ONE game. Bailey was under fire for the " blow outs" we were suffering ( 50 - 60 point defeats lol) it was said we lacked on field leaders and the all round capacity to respond as a team when the pressure of a game was on. Thomas used to tear into the dees often on FC because of this. . The " bruise free" jibe hurt bailey too. It was felt we lacked guts as a team and that Bailey had made them soft. 186 was just the final proof to people who were waiting for an oppurtunity to knife him.

When you consider how undermined and understaffed schwab made Bailey and the FD, and how behind the rest of the league we were falling in fitness standards because of that, Bailey starts to look like a genius now doesnt he. Sacking him that week may have been the worst miscalculation we've made in the 42 years Ive been following the club .

How many flags had Sheeds won by then? Was it 2?

Neeld's won 1 game against a non expansion side in 30 matches!
