Will Garry Lyon

I've said it a number of times, but the Melbourne players were told that Lyon was their coach. Lyon did the dodge behind his manager's back and Neeld was appointed the next day.

So Mark Neeld's position as coach was undermined from day one? If everyone thought Ross Lyon was to be the coach and instead some relative unknown was brought in, surely the players were less receptive to the unexpected coach's instructions than they would have otherwise been. Maybe that's part of the reason why we've been so slow to adapt to Mark Neeld's ideas.

It could explain it. Particularly as the "relative unknown" fellow that came in was to deal out some harsh sprays. He definitely came in with a great deal of arrogance. I'm not the sentimental type, but imagine Ross Lyon coaching us.

Lyon is a joker

I hope he never comes near the MFC again

And whilst you're at it, why don't you ban Barrass and anybody associated with the Cordners. He's not the bloody anti Christ. You may want to purchase some perspective. He was a servant to the club. I'm not wrapped in him ATM but Geeezzz.

These are professional football players...they should suck it up or get another job. The coaches job is not to be their friend, its to get the team to succeed. And I doubt the players were told Lyon would coach them the next year, as no such thing would have been officially said until it was signed and delivered. I think they were listening to the media too much.

As for Gary his intention was right and to say that him alone was responsible for hiring the new coach was hogwash. A sub-comittee makes the decision and then recommends to the board. Gary would have only been one or maybe four or five votes on the recommendation. He was simply the public face of the process and it normally includes at least one person independent of the board itself to oversee the process.

Gary is not the messiah but his heart is in the right place when he gets involved.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w
