How do you think Lyon and the Ox picked up media gigs. Ian Johnson ring a bell anyone.

...but I do get your point, particularly when Cloke is still playing and he's hardly the most polished media performer going around.

Not going to do a lot for ch 9's ratings. I've seen sherin footballs with more personality.

how is this allowed?

I am fairly certain there is a media allowance that sits outside of the salary cap isn't there? Clubs choose how they assign this to players (if they use it). I seem to recall that clubs like the roos, doggies and us made comments to the effect that they could not afford to spend this on players and that was a disadvantage still to the poorer clubs.

Or did I miss the point of your comment in that how the heck is Travis Cloke allowed on TV? if thats your question.... I can't answer that, its a mystery that anyone would consider him a competent media personality!

... I wonder if the CH9 news might use him to cover schoolies ! :)

Each club has an allocation that can be spent outside of the salary cap. I know in 2011 it was $573k per year. I'm sure this amount has risen to at least $600k now. This doesn't have to be spread accross the team, it can all go to an individual if they want. This money is OUTSIDE the cap. I'm sure this is exactly what Cloke's arrangement is associated with. I guess this means players such as Thomas, Pendles and Swan all miss out. (Our chance to swoop?)

Our players get some money, look at Watts in those stupid commercials, or Jamar and Dunn dancing around the big screen on match days.

P.S - Been looking for the most recent CBA for a while, can anyone help me find this?

On a different note: The investigations Manager mentioned in 16.5 better have lost his job after signing off on Judd's deal!

"The Investigations Manager must be satisfied that an Additional Services

Agreement is bona fide and if he is not so satisfied, the payments made by the AFL
Club or Sponsor of an AFL Club under the Additional Services Agreement shall be
included in the Total Player Payments of the AFL Club. "

After Robbo's "scoop" this morning I would like to see the AFL come out with a list of all players receiving an ambassadorial payment. I heard that Natanui receives a payment (promoting the game to Fijians - hope Rodan gets the same to promote the game to breakdancers) and that Pavlich also receives an additional payment through the AFL. Who knows what for though. To hear Vlad's outcry over the article - what a load of bollocks. If Buddy decided to go to GWS , the ink on the cheque wouldn't be dried before it got to him. What a sham.

Travis Cloke its been announced has a 5 Year contract with CH-9's the Footy Show, and their 6pm news.

I won't be watching.

Same as what Buckley got when Eddie was King of FS.

He's got a good head for radio...

Shame he speaks like his Dad...

Don't think the AFL does transparency!

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.
